In their own words
LlamaIndex
LlamaIndex is a freemium platform for developers and enterprises automating document processing and AI workflows. LlamaParse handles more than 50 unstructured file types, including files with embedded images, complex layouts, multi-page tables and handwritten notes. Schema-based, language-model extraction agents convert unstructured content into structured insights without training. Workflows can divide documents into logical sections and classify them using natural-language descriptions and rules. Chunking and embedding pipelines support indexing and retrieval in RAG workflows. Community integrations cover data loaders, agent tools, language models, vector stores, observability and application frameworks. LlamaCloud connectors currently include Google Drive, SharePoint, S3 and Confluence. Free and Starter plans allow five concurrent parse, extract, classify and split jobs; Pro allows 20 and Enterprise 100. The Free plan has no listed price; Starter costs $50.00 per month. LlamaParse is commercial, while LlamaIndex and Workflows are open-source.
txtai
txtai is an open-source framework for semantic search, language-model orchestration, and language-model workflows. Its embeddings database brings together sparse and dense vector indexes, graph networks, and relational databases. It supports vector search with SQL, object storage, topic modeling, graph analysis, and multimodal indexing, and can create embeddings from text, documents, audio, images, and video. Pipelines cover prompts, question answering, labeling, transcription, translation, and summarization; workflows combine pipelines with business logic, while agents can coordinate embeddings, pipelines, workflows, and other agents. Web and Model Context Protocol APIs are available, alongside JavaScript, Java, Rust, and Go bindings. txtai can run locally or be deployed on a server, cluster, or serverless environment. Install with pip or use Docker; Python 3.11 or later is supported. The software is free under the Apache 2.0 license. The API is open over HTTP by default, with HTTPS and token authorization options documented.
