Overview

Facilities publish dock availability and rules, and carriers or suppliers request appointments within those boundaries. Drivers can submit arrival details, PO or BOL references, files, photos, and checkout updates through QR and mobile workflows. Teams can follow waiting trucks, dock assignments, yard status, dwell time, releases, and checkouts, keeping the movement through the facility visible alongside the appointment.

A load record can hold PO and BOL details, carrier and supplier status, messages, documents, notes, and activity history. That broader operational context is the product's clearest advantage over a standalone scheduler: teams can connect a booking to the freight and activity around it. If the requirement is simply to reserve dock slots, much of that scope may be unnecessary.

Key features

Appointment scheduling: Published availability and rules constrain requests, while carrier self-service gives outside partners a way to request appointments. This can reduce coordination around bookings, but the monthly allowance makes fit depend on appointment volume.
Gate and yard workflows: QR and mobile check-in supports arrival details and shipment references, while yard tracking covers assignments, waiting trucks, dwell time, releases, and checkout. These features suit teams that need to coordinate activity beyond the dock door.
Freight records: Documents, messages, notes, and status updates can sit with PO and BOL details in a load record. That is useful when a team needs a joined-up view of freight activity rather than isolated appointment entries.
Integrations: Standalone use, CSV-style imports and exports, API access, and webhook updates support a range of ERP, TMS, and WMS workflows. HMAC-signed webhook delivery adds a stated security measure for appointment and load events.

Pricing

LoadMetrics Free costs 0.00 USD per free, billed $0/month. It covers one facility and 25 dock appointments per month, plus carrier self-service, supporting documents, and claims documentation. No credit card is required and there is no expiration. This is a useful starting point for a low-volume, single-facility operation, but 25 monthly appointments is a tight ceiling for busier docks.

Dock Scheduling costs 49.00 USD per month, billed $49/month. It keeps the one-facility limit and raises the allowance to up to 250 appointments per month, including everything in LoadMetrics Free. This is the direct step up for a site that outgrows the free quota without needing the larger platform's freight-record allowance.

Complete LoadMetrics Platform — Standard costs 149.00 USD per month, starting at $149/month. It includes one facility, 500 freight records per month, and unlimited internal, carrier, and driver users. It is aimed at teams whose need extends beyond appointment volume to managing freight records with a broad set of users. The plan details do not state an appointment allowance, so it should not be treated as a straightforward higher-quota scheduling tier.

The pricing model is freemium, and a 30-day trial is offered. Every described plan is limited to one facility, so organizations coordinating multiple locations should weigh that constraint before choosing a tier.

Platforms

LoadMetrics supports web and API access. Driver workflows include mobile and QR check-in, but the stated platform availability is web and API rather than a separate mobile platform.

Who it's for

The product is built for distribution, warehouse, and logistics teams, including distributors, manufacturers, 3PLs, utilities, cold storage, food and beverage, building materials, and industrial supply. It makes the most sense where carrier appointments, gate activity, yard status, and freight records need to fit into one operating workflow. A single-facility team can start free or move to the 250-appointment Dock Scheduling plan; multi-facility operators should look elsewhere if they need the product to cover more than one site.

Pros and cons

Pro: Scheduling, gate check-in, yard visibility, and load documentation are connected, giving teams more operational context than an appointment-only workflow.
Pro: The free plan has no credit-card requirement or expiration, making it possible to start with one facility and a small monthly appointment volume.
Pro: CSV-style exchange, API access, and webhooks support connection to ERP, TMS, and WMS workflows as well as standalone use.
Con: Every described plan is limited to one facility, which rules out using these tiers to coordinate multiple sites.
Con: The free plan's 25 appointments per month may be too restrictive for an active dock, while Dock Scheduling stops at 250.

Alternatives

For a broader dock scheduling software comparison, consider what matters most: LoadMetrics emphasizes the connection between appointments and gate, yard, and freight workflows.

DockSync may suit buyers looking for paid plans with bay-based limits, including a Starter plan at 79.00 GBP per month for one warehouse and up to eight bays, with no per-user fees.
ProDocks is worth considering for a free plan with unlimited doors and appointments at a single warehouse, alongside carrier booking and QR check-in.
Inbound Connect is another paid alternative.
DataDocks may fit buyers who prefer custom pricing based on facility and requirements.
SimpleDock may suit a small team seeking a free booking link for one location, with up to three team members and email and SMS notifications.
DockHero is a paid, web-based alternative with a free trial and a DispatchHero plan at 24.99 USD per month for organizing non-DockHero customer appointments.
SlotMaster may suit teams that want a defined booking allowance: Essentials costs 99.00 EUR per month for one location, five docks, five users, and 250 bookings per month.
Descartes Customs and Regulatory Compliance is a paid alternative focused on customs and regulatory compliance.

Verdict

Choose LoadMetrics Dock Scheduling if one facility needs carrier appointment requests connected to check-in, yard activity, and freight records. Its strongest reason to buy is that wider operating context, supported by a free entry plan and a 250-appointment paid scheduling tier. Look elsewhere if you need multiple facilities or a higher scheduling allowance than the described plans provide.
