In their own words
LocalBG
LocalBG removes backgrounds from images, videos and GIFs while processing files on the user's machine. It can work offline; the maker says internet access is needed for license activation or renewal and optional update checks. The maker also says media is never transmitted and that the app does not collect or transmit personal data from within the software. The Free plan processes unlimited images one at a time at full resolution, with no account or watermark. Pro adds batch processing, video and GIF removal, resizing, compression, AI enhancement and layered PSD export. Images can be imported as JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP or GIF and exported as PNG or WEBP. Pro supports MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM and MKV video, with ProRes 4444 alpha-channel or green-screen MP4 export. Other features include custom backgrounds, stickers, watermarks, alpha masks, auto-centering, shadows and reflections. A command-line interface can be wrapped in a self-hosted HTTP API, and the maker documents headless Linux use in cron jobs, Docker and CI pipelines. Pro costs €8.00 per month after a 3-day trial; prices exclude VAT.
unbagrnd
unbagrnd removes photo backgrounds with on-device AI, and its desktop app processes images locally through ONNX Runtime. The maker says images, filenames, and metadata are not sent anywhere; the app makes a one-time model download and has no analytics, update checks, or telemetry. Users can choose among several models with different speed and accuracy tradeoffs; the default is described as 43 MB. Editing tools include brush erase and restore with undo and redo, edge shift and smoothing, background color and shadow styling, and alpha matte export. It is intended for single photos or folders, including cutout refinement and background styling. A Docker-based REST API can be self-hosted to process images inside the user’s container. Its documented defaults include a 20 MB image limit, dimensions up to 8192 pixels, batches of up to 10, and 60 requests per API key per minute. The API uses plain HTTP, so a reverse proxy is recommended for TLS when exposing it publicly. The software is free and MIT-licensed, with Android, Linux, macOS, Windows, API, and self-hosted platforms listed.
