Overview

LOVAT brings VAT, sales tax, tax registration, marketplace-tax tools, EPR checks and e-invoicing under one roof. It calculates VAT and sales tax across 111 countries and 123 currencies, and can submit VAT returns directly to tax authorities for more than 100 countries. Its online sales-tax filing covers 37 US states. This reach is useful for businesses selling across borders, although it does not mean every product shares the same plan or limits.

Beyond tax returns, LOVAT checks EPR compliance in Germany, France, Spain, the UK and other countries, and generates compliant e-invoices in more than 30 countries. It is a certified Peppol provider. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in the UK, the company also offers integrations with major commerce, payment and accounting services, including Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Stripe, WooCommerce, Xero and Zoho.

Key features

Tax calculation and filing: Automated filing, tax registration and broad VAT and sales-tax calculations make LOVAT more than a calculator. Businesses needing direct filing can use VAT submissions to authorities or online filing in 37 US states; the latter is not a nationwide US filing service.
Mobile app: The app collects sales-channel data, prepares and files returns, tracks thresholds, sends deadline notifications and shows ten years of sales and return data. That combination is practical for monitoring obligations away from a desktop.
EPR and e-invoicing: EPR checks and compliant e-invoice generation extend coverage beyond tax. EPR reporting is not the full registration cost: registration requires a separate fee quote.
Integrations: Commerce and payment connections include Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Etsy, AliExpress, Magento, Stripe, WooCommerce and PayPal. E-invoicing also connects with ERP and accounting systems such as Sage, SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, QuickBooks and Xero. The WooCommerce integration can upload packaging data for EPR obligations as well as calculate tax.
Cloud and support: An internet connection is required, and software data is stored in the cloud. LOVAT says support is offered in five languages with answers within five minutes; e-invoicing data is described as protected with enterprise-grade security and compliance with global data-protection laws.

Pricing

LOVAT has a free plan, paid plans from €27.00 EUR per month, and a 14-day trial. The Free plan costs 0.00 EUR and allows one data-import integration, making it a narrow starting point rather than a high-volume operating tier.

The general Start-up plan costs 27.00 EUR per month and allows 100 transactions, €1,000 in transaction value, one integration and four auto-submits per year. Standard costs 50.00 EUR per month and raises those caps to 1,000 transactions, €100,000, two integrations and four auto-submits per year. Premium costs 344.00 EUR per month, with 20,000 transactions, €1,200,000, five integrations and 16 auto-submits per year. The higher tiers are the practical choice when the entry plan's small transaction ceiling or limited integrations would constrain operations.

Product-specific plans differ. Sales tax Start-up is 27.00 EUR per month for €1,000 transaction value and 100 transactions per month, one integration and four annual auto-submits; Sales tax Standard is 50.00 EUR per month for €100,000 and 1,000 transactions, two integrations and four auto-submits; Sales tax Premium is 344.00 EUR per month for €1,200,000 and 20,000 transactions, five integrations and 16 auto-submits. VAT Start-up costs 35.00 EUR per month for one integration, €1,000 transaction value and 100 transactions; VAT Standard costs 65.00 EUR per month for two integrations, €100,000 and 1,000 transactions; VAT Premium costs 450.00 EUR per month for five integrations, €1,200,000 and 10,000 transactions. VAT tiers do not state an auto-submit allowance, so sales-tax submission quotas should not be assumed to apply.

EPR Tier 1 costs 190.00 EUR per month and includes one user, up to one ton per year, one integration, four jurisdictions and one pack credit. Tier 2 costs 220.00 EUR per month and raises those allowances to three users, four tons, two integrations, eight jurisdictions and one pack credit. Both exclude the separate EPR registration fee. All listed paid plan prices are monthly; the caps make expected transaction volume, integration needs and filing frequency central to choosing a tier.

Platforms

LOVAT supports Android, iOS, web and API access. The mobile apps add threshold and deadline monitoring, while the API option suits businesses connecting tax functions to their own systems.

Who it's for

LOVAT is strongest for cross-border e-commerce sellers, digital-service providers, marketplace facilitators and accounting firms that need more than one compliance function. It is a less natural fit for a business seeking only a simple calculation tool or one that cannot work within the relevant plan's transaction, value or auto-submit limits.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad tax geography, VAT submission and 37-state US sales-tax filing can consolidate calculation and filing across markets.
Pro: EPR and e-invoicing sit alongside tax tools, with useful commerce and accounting integrations.
Pro: The free tier and 14-day trial offer ways to start before committing to a paid plan.
Con: Entry paid tiers cap monthly activity at 100 transactions and €1,000 transaction value, so modest growth can require an upgrade.
Con: EPR registration is an additional quoted fee, separate from monthly reporting prices.
Con: The cloud service requires an internet connection and stores data on LOVAT's servers.

Alternatives

For a comparison across tax-compliance products, start with Tax Compliance Software; for a VAT-focused shortlist, see VAT Software.

Zamp is worth considering for teams seeking clarity on tax exposure through a 30-day sandbox, or U.S. compliance as they scale. Avalara AvaTax offers Core Compliance at 79.00 USD per month for businesses under $50M annual revenue, with 12,000+ U.S. tax jurisdictions. Alphatax is another paid option with a free trial and API, web and Windows platforms.

TaxBandits may suit readers prioritizing pay-run features: its Basic plan is 19.00 USD per month with unlimited pay runs and a $0 employee fee, and it offers a free plan and trial. ONESOURCE Determination, CCH SureTax, Tax Series and Stripe Tax are other options to compare.

Verdict

Choose LOVAT if your cross-border operation needs a combination of VAT or sales-tax filing, registration, EPR checks and e-invoicing, and its product-specific caps fit your workload. Its main advantage is the breadth of compliance functions and integrations; look elsewhere if you need a simpler single-purpose service or cannot accommodate the transaction ceilings and separate EPR registration charge.
