In their own words
LumaPlane
LumaPlane is a browser-based projection mapping tool for shaping projected images and videos on real surfaces. Users create planes, attach media, adjust shapes while projecting, and send the result fullscreen to a projector. Masks can block areas, and multiple planes can be layered. The browser workflow needs no installation or specialist hardware. A projector that appears as a display can receive the output by moving the browser window there and selecting fullscreen. The free Starter plan runs forever without a card, includes one project, unlimited planes and built-in gallery media, and costs nothing. Basic costs $19 a year with 10 projects and uploads up to 50MB. Pro costs $49 a year with unlimited projects and 500MB media storage. Basic and Pro support user uploads. Listed audiences include beginners, hobbyists, small venues, educators and artists.
MapMap
MapMap is projection mapping software for placing video and other media onto surfaces selected by the user. It is aimed at artists and small teams and runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Mapping shapes include quads or meshes, triangles, and ellipses. The media library supports video, still images, animated GIFs, color paints or masks, and webcams on Linux. Preferred containers include MOV, AVI, MP4, OGG, and OGV, with listed codecs including Motion-JPEG or Photo-JPEG, MPEG4, and Apple Pro Res 422. Layers can be shown or hidden, isolated, locked, duplicated, deleted, and rearranged. Projects use the .mmp extension and XML format. OpenSoundControl can change source files, opacity, visibility, and volume, although it is unsupported on macOS. MapMap is free, open source under GNU GPL v3, and offers GitHub issues, mailing-list, IRC, and email support.
