Overview

Rather than focusing only on generating lyrics from a prompt, Lyric Genie supports several stages of songwriting: organizing sections, working through rhymes, capturing vocal ideas, and sharing a draft with co-writers. Contributors are identified line by line, which helps collaborators track how a shared lyric develops.

Audio import accepts M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, AAC, and FLAC, with conversion to M4A on the device. Freestyle mode turns hummed placeholder syllables into lyrics while preserving their phrasing, giving writers a way to carry a vocal idea into text. The trade-off is its single supported language, which rules it out for writers who need a multilingual workflow.

Key features

Structure and AI writing tools

Drafts can be divided into verses, choruses, bridges, and other song sections. AI suggestions use a song’s mood, theme, and reference artists as context; prompt generation and rewriting offer ways to develop a line or get past a block. That contextual approach is more useful for shaping a song than a tool limited to producing lyrics from a bare prompt, although the free request allowance is too small for sustained AI-assisted work.

Collaboration and exports

Real-time co-writing and line-level attribution make the app well suited to sessions involving more than one writer. Lyric sheets can include credits, PRO splits, and IPIs, then be exported as a PDF or public URL. Those options help carry a draft into sharing and crediting workflows, though they do not change the fact that the app supports only one language.

Privacy and support

Song data is stored in Google Firebase, and data transmission uses industry-standard encryption. The privacy policy identifies Anthropic’s Claude API for AI features and says users retain intellectual property rights to their lyrics and creative content. Support is available by email at support@lyricgenie.app, with typical responses in 24–48 hours.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes unlimited songs, basic rhymes and synonyms, 60 minutes of voice recordings, and real-time collaboration. Its caps are the important qualification: 30 rhyme lookups per day and seven main writing-tool requests total. It is a sensible way to organize songs and collaborate without paying, but not a lasting option for writers who rely on frequent AI requests.

Pro Monthly costs 4.99 USD per month and adds Wish Workshop AI-powered brainstorming, smart rhyming, thesaurus and sound-alikes, 1,000 minutes of voice recordings, and 5,000 AI requests per month. It also removes the rhyme lookup cap. This is the practical choice for regular AI-assisted writing, but its monthly request quota still matters for intensive use.

Pro Yearly costs 49.99 USD per year and includes everything in Free and Pro Monthly, with two months free. It suits writers committed to using the full Pro feature set over a year; the monthly plan is the more flexible choice for those who do not want that commitment. A 14-day trial is offered, giving prospective subscribers a short period to assess the paid tools.

Platforms

Lyric Genie runs on iOS and macOS. That covers writers working on Apple mobile devices and computers, but does not suit someone seeking an Android or web workflow.

Who it's for

Lyric Genie is best for songwriters who organize lyrics into sections, work with co-writers, and want audio capture or AI assistance in the same workspace. Its credits, PRO splits, and IPIs also make it relevant to professional songwriting sessions. Writers who need more than one language, or who want AI without a modest free-tier ceiling, should consider another tool.

Pros and cons

Pros: Real-time collaboration identifies each writer’s contributions line by line, making shared drafts easier to follow.
Pros: Audio import covers six common formats and converts files on-device; Freestyle mode preserves the phrasing of hummed ideas.
Pros: PDF and public URL exports can include credits, PRO splits, and IPIs, extending the draft beyond the writing session.
Cons: The free plan permits only seven main writing-tool requests total, restricting ongoing use of AI features.
Cons: Support for one language excludes multilingual writing workflows.
Cons: Availability is limited to iOS and macOS, so it is not an option for Android or web-only users.

Alternatives

Browse AI lyric generators for a broader set of lyric-writing options.

Prompt Maschine is worth considering for writers who want Android support and a free tier with three generation operations per day, each returning two variants; its saved library is local, and some tools have separate limits.

Lacuna is an alternative with API, browser extension, iOS, and web platforms, for writers who want broader platform coverage.

RhymesLab may suit web users who prefer a free plan capped at five songs and 25 sections per month, with 15 Ghost chats per day and a 14-day Flow trial.

FlowTight is an iOS alternative whose free plan includes voice recording, an AI lyric generator, and three AI beat generations per month.

LyricDraft offers a web-based option with 18 signup credits on its free plan and manual edits at no charge.

RhymeFlux supports Android, iOS, and web, with a free plan limited to one active song, 15 AI credits every 30 days, and rhyme highlighting for the first 12 bars of the first section.

Lyrium is another iOS and macOS option.

RHYMEBOOK is a cross-platform option for Android, iOS, and web, with a free plan that includes 50 notes, 25 AI suggestions per month, three Ghostwriter chats per month, one demo per month, and five transcription minutes per month.

Verdict

Choose Lyric Genie if you write in one language and want structured lyrics, real-time collaboration, audio input, and session-ready exports in an Apple-device workflow. Its strongest reason to choose it is the combination of line-attributed co-writing and songwriting-specific tools; its clearest reason to look elsewhere is the free plan’s seven lifetime main requests, especially if regular AI assistance is central to your process.
