Overview

Make combines a visual integration platform with code- and prompt-based ways to build automations. It is strongest when a process spans several systems or needs conditional routing, data handling, or API connections; a simple, occasional handoff may not need that range.

Each scenario action consumes credits, usually one, while some AI-provider features consume more. That model can make usage harder to estimate for workflows with many steps or AI actions. Make says more than 400,000 organizations across over 200 countries and territories use the platform. Founded in 2015, it is now part of Celonis.

Key features

The drag-and-drop builder supports multi-step workflows, conditional flow control, data manipulation, webhooks, HTTP requests, notes, and analytics. Users can also build in code or describe an automation by prompt through Maia. This mix offers flexibility for both structured processes and natural-language-assisted creation, though the credit cost still rises with scenario actions.

More than 3,000 pre-built apps and integrations provide broad coverage, with custom apps and public API connections available when a ready-made connector is not the right fit. The REST API can access Make data and control the platform through HTTP requests. Teams and team roles let organizations manage permissions for scenario apps, templates, and connections.

AI capabilities include tools, agents for orchestrating complex workflows, Maia, and more than 300 AI app integrations. Make also supports parallel scenario execution and priority execution during peak usage. The On-prem agent can securely connect to local networks and business applications such as SAP.

Make lists GDPR, SOC 3, and SOC 2 Type II compliance, as well as encryption and single sign-on. It says data at rest uses full-disk AES-256 encryption with AWS Key Management Service, while network traffic uses TLS 1.2 and 1.3 with AES-256. Its hosting environment is accessible only through a private network via VPN, not directly from the public internet.

Pricing

Make is freemium. Credits are the billing unit, and the allowance is not the same as a count of complete workflows: each module action consumes credits, with some AI-provider actions using more than most.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: No time limit and no credit card required. Includes up to 1,000 credits per month, two active scenarios, a 15-minute minimum schedule interval, five-minute maximum execution, and a 5 MB maximum file size. It includes customer support. This is a sensible starting point for light or infrequent automations, but the monthly cap and two-scenario ceiling constrain ongoing use.
Core — 9.00 USD per month: 10,000 credits per month, unlimited active scenarios, a one-minute minimum interval, 40-minute maximum execution, and 100 MB maximum file size. It is the clearest step up for individuals who need more frequent schedules or several active workflows.
Pro — 16.00 USD per month: The plan description targets individuals and SMB teams automating across multiple workflows and gives a price for 5k credits per month; the plan allowance is also stated as 10,000 credits per month. It adds priority scenario execution, a 250 MB maximum file size, and 30-day execution-log storage. Buyers should weigh the stated credit terms carefully against their expected usage.
Teams — 29.00 USD per month: 10,000 credits per month, unlimited active scenarios, teams and team roles, a 500 MB maximum file size, and 30-day execution-log storage. It fits groups that need shared permissions; it also provides access to more than 300 Make API endpoints.
Enterprise — custom pricing: Custom functions, enterprise app integrations, 24/7 enterprise support, overage protection, advanced security features, and a 1,000 MB maximum file size. It is aimed at organizations running critical processes and adds access to a Value Engineering team.

The paid plans are billed monthly. Compare credit allowances with the number and complexity of scenario actions, especially where AI-provider features are involved; a nominal monthly workflow count alone will not predict consumption.

Platforms

Make supports web, Android, iOS, and API access. Its mobile apps can monitor phone events and perform actions on the device. Deployment uses AWS in the EU and North America; on-premises access is supported through the On-prem agent.

Who it's for

Make is a strong fit for individuals and teams automating across many apps, building workflows with branches or data transformations, or connecting to public APIs and local business systems. Teams that need role-based collaboration can consider Teams, while organizations with critical processes and enterprise support needs should look at Enterprise.

It is a weaker fit for users whose automations must run frequently on the Free plan, whose processes use many credit-consuming actions, or who only need a basic app handoff. In those cases, the schedule interval, scenario cap, and per-action billing may outweigh the breadth of the builder.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad integration reach. More than 3,000 pre-built apps, custom apps, and public API connections give workflows several routes to systems beyond a standard connector catalog.
Pro: Flexible workflow construction. Visual, code, and prompt-based creation sit alongside conditional logic, data manipulation, and webhook controls.
Pro: Useful organizational controls. Team roles, single sign-on, encryption, and an On-prem agent address collaboration and local-network connections.
Con: Credits complicate usage planning. Every module action consumes credits, and some AI-provider features cost more, so larger or AI-heavy scenarios can use allowances faster.
Con: Free plan is tightly bounded. Two active scenarios, 1,000 monthly credits, and a 15-minute minimum schedule interval limit frequent or broad use.
Con: Pro credit terms need scrutiny. Its description gives a price for 5k credits per month while the plan allowance is stated as 10,000 credits per month.

Alternatives

Zapier is worth considering for a simpler entry point: its Free plan includes 100 tasks per month and two-step workflows, while Make's free tier allows two active scenarios and up to 1,000 credits per month.

IFTTT may suit lighter applet-based automation: its free plan includes two Applets, standard speeds, and unlimited Applet runs. Bonita is an alternative with Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosted support; its free plan allows 150 process instances per month.

Taskade AI Agents may be a better match when the focus is AI agents and a free plan with two users, three apps, and one agent. Pabbly Connect offers a web-based free plan with 100 tasks per month and unlimited workflows.

Albato is another web and API option, with a free plan capped at 100 transactions, five active automations, and two steps per automation. Workato Agentic offers a free plan with 50,000 one-time credits and a paid Pro plan at 75.00 USD per month.

Retool is worth comparing for teams seeking self-hosted deployment; its free plan is available, and its Team plan is priced per builder and internal user. Verdict

Choose Make if you need a flexible, connector-rich platform for multi-step workflows and can plan around credits. Its strongest case is the combination of visual control, broad integrations, and API and on-premises options. Look elsewhere if your needs are simple, your schedule must run more often than the Free tier allows, or predictable action-by-action costs matter more than workflow flexibility.
