In their own words
mariadb-backup
mariadb-backup is a free, open-source tool for physical backups of MariaDB tables, including while the server is running. Available on Linux and Windows for self-hosted deployments, it supports InnoDB, Aria, MyISAM, and MyRocks. Backup options include full, incremental, and partial copies, point-in-time recovery, and restoration of individual databases, tables, or partitions. It can make hot online InnoDB backups and uses a nearly non-blocking method for full backups on running systems. It also supports Galera Cluster state snapshot transfers, InnoDB page-compressed tables, and tables protected by data-at-rest encryption; encrypted tables stay encrypted in the backup. Output can be streamed to stdout for piping to tools such as OpenSSL or gzip. Restoring requires preparation with the --prepare option, and safe full or incremental restores require an empty MariaDB data directory. Backup operations connect to the running server and generally require global RELOAD, PROCESS, LOCK TABLES, and BINLOG MONITOR privileges. The listed plan is free.
Quemsi
Quemsi is a hybrid tool for database backup and restore, with a web UI for tagged snapshots, timeline history, and one-click restoration. It supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MongoDB. Backup and restore flows can include custom steps such as stopping services or running scripts, and backups can go to AWS S3, Azure Blob, or local drives under the user's control. Its agent runs operations inside the user's infrastructure, while the cloud service handles metadata rather than database content. The agent is open source and can be audited, modified, or built from source. Agent-to-cloud communication uses TLS 1.3, agents use certificate-based mutual TLS, and SHA-256 checksums verify backup integrity. Agents are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS, and can also run as a Java JAR or Docker container. The free Solo plan costs nothing and includes unlimited databases, environments, and flows for one user, with community support.
