Overview

Marvel combines wireframing, mockups and website or app prototypes in a single browser workspace. Teams can organize projects into folders, create separate teams and collect feedback through comments and annotations. That makes it a sensible choice when review and design handoff are part of the same process, rather than separate activities owned by different tools.

Its Handoff tool produces downloadable assets and CSS, Swift and Android XML, with outputs synchronized to design changes. A GraphQL API covers project data, designs, prototypes, interactions, collaborators, comments and beta user testing. Integrations include Sketch, Jira, Confluence, Dropbox Paper, Microsoft Teams, YouTube, Niice, Smartmockups and Zeroheight. The breadth helps Marvel connect to team workflows, though the platform itself is browser-based rather than a desktop app.

Key features

Prototyping and review

Interactive prototypes can present realistic interactions without coding, giving teams a way to discuss how a website or app should behave before implementation. Comments and annotations keep feedback attached to the project. The mobile apps can create, play and share prototypes, support offline viewing and sync with Sketch, which is useful for reviewing work away from the browser.

Handoff and team controls

Handoff is a practical strength for teams that need more than static screens: downloadable assets and platform-specific code provide developers with implementation references, and synchronization reduces the risk of specs drifting from design changes. Enterprise adds security controls including SSO, IP restriction, access logs, user permissions and project-level password protection. Marvel says its infrastructure is EU hosted and GDPR compliant, with data centers certified to SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3 and ISO27001; it also cites 256-bit SSL/TLS 1.2 encryption in transit, encryption at rest, a 99.98% uptime SLA and 24/7 global support coverage.

Pricing

Marvel is freemium, with a 7-day trial for paid plans. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and allows 1 user and 1 project. That is enough for an individual to explore a small piece of work, but not a lasting home for multiple active projects: downgrading to Free leaves one project and makes the others inactive.

Pro costs 12.00 USD per month (billed billed yearly) for 1 user, unlimited projects, 3 active user tests, prototype and design downloads, and removal of Marvel branding. It is the clearest fit for a solo designer who needs a professional, unbranded handoff but has modest testing needs. Team costs 42.00 USD per month (billed billed yearly), starts at 3 users, and raises the allowance to 10 active user tests while retaining unlimited projects, downloads and unbranded output; premium support is also included. The higher floor makes it more appropriate for a small working group than a single user.

Enterprise has custom pricing, unlimited users and projects, advanced security settings, Single Sign-On and custom billing. It is the relevant tier for larger organizations that need centralized access controls rather than simply more project capacity. The lower tiers trade away those enterprise controls, and Pro's single seat and three-test allowance may constrain teams that need shared work or frequent user testing.

Platforms

Marvel supports web, iOS, Android and API access, but has no desktop app. Its design-systems and real-time collaboration capabilities support teams maintaining shared design work, while mobile apps extend prototype creation and review beyond the browser.

Who it's for

Marvel is best for individual designers and small-to-large product teams that want wireframing, interactive review, collaboration and developer handoff in one workflow. Its security features and custom Enterprise tier suit organizations with stricter access needs. It is less compelling for a solo user who needs several active projects on a free account, or for anyone whose work depends on a desktop design application.

Pros and cons

Connected design-to-handoff workflow: prototypes, team feedback and downloadable assets and code sit in one platform, reducing the need to split those stages across tools.
Useful collaboration and integrations: folders, teams, comments, annotations, real-time collaboration and integrations with tools such as Sketch and Jira support shared work.
Enterprise controls are substantial: SSO, IP restriction, access logs and project passwords address needs beyond basic design sharing.
The free account is tightly capped: one user and one project make it unsuitable for ongoing work across multiple projects.
Team pricing starts at three users: the 42.00 USD per month (billed billed yearly) tier is a meaningful step up for a pair or an individual, even though it adds more tests and premium support.
No desktop app: teams seeking a native desktop design environment will need another tool.

Alternatives

For a different focus, Zeplin Flows has a free plan with one project, 100 screens, unlimited members, weekly AI review and organization allowances, but no Flow Boards. FlowSnap is a free option on Android, iOS and macOS, with up to three projects and PNG export with a watermark. Rheo offers a free Indie plan for one app and one seat, with a 400 MAU allowance and limits on channels, experiments and email volume. Figr has a free web/API/extension plan with monthly-refreshing credits, three canvases and Figma export.

Overflow is a paid alternative with a 19.95 EUR per month Pro plan that includes 1GB cloud storage per user, sharing, folders and comments. BenchCanvas offers a free plan and a Pro tier with unlimited projects and screens, comments, exports and sharing without branding, with Pro pricing not listed. For information architecture work, Slickplan has a 10.79 USD per month Basic plan (billed Billed annually) for one user and three active projects. Wireflow is a free, MIT-licensed, self-hostable web option with no sign-up required.

Verdict

Choose Marvel if you want to carry a design from wireframe through interactive review and developer handoff without fragmenting the workflow. Its strongest case is that combination, backed by collaboration and enterprise controls. Look elsewhere if the free one-project cap is too restrictive, if a desktop app is essential, or if your team cannot justify the annual-billed Team tier.
