In their own words
massCode
massCode is a free, open-source, local-first desktop workspace for code snippets, Markdown notes, HTTP requests, calculations, and developer utilities. Its Code space organizes reusable snippets with folders, search, and an editor. Notes supports Markdown documents, task status and due dates, a notes graph, mindmaps, and presentation mode. The HTTP workspace handles collections, environments, scripts, tests, sequential runs, GraphQL, and WebSocket, and imports requests from OpenAPI, Postman, or Bruno. A browser clipper can save selected code, page text, and links into Code, Notes, or HTTP. Snippets and notes are plain Markdown files in a local vault that users can read, edit, move, or back up outside the app. There is no built-in cloud account or proprietary sync, though the vault folder can be synced with external services. AI connections can use provider API keys or local models; cloud API use is billed by the provider. Downloads include macOS, Windows, and Ubuntu Linux builds, with browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
SnipIT
SnipIT is a snippet manager for code, AI prompts, developer links, and offline utilities, organized into Code, AI, Links, and Tools vaults. Its free features include web clipping to save code blocks and text from websites, and free-tier snippet data is stored in the browser’s local environment. A licensed Pro account enables real-time syncing across the Chrome extension, desktop application, and web dashboard. The extension can review code using Google Gemini and generate boilerplate, unit tests, or functions. SnipIT says its AI features do not use proprietary code to train external models, and secret scanning warns about saved API keys or credentials. Cloud-synced data is protected by Firebase Security Rules. Enterprise workspaces allow teams to share vaults and resources, while administrators can export or wipe organization data. The native Tauri desktop application is listed for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and the extension is available through the Chrome Web Store. The free plan is listed as free forever; paid prices are not published on the maker’s site.
