In their own words
MeshLab
MeshLab is a free desktop system for processing and editing 3D triangular meshes, including unstructured models produced by 3D scanning. Its tools cover editing, cleaning, repair, inspection, rendering, texturing, and conversion. The site describes using it to process raw data from 3D digitization and prepare models for 3D printing. MeshLab supports PTX point-cloud and range-map files, and listed export formats include PLY, STL, OBJ, OFF, WRL, and DXF. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux and is distributed under the GPL 3.0 license. PyMeshLab provides a Python interface for loading and saving meshes and applying MeshLab filters; the VCG code can be used in a standalone, large-scale automated processing pipeline. The listed MeshLab 2025.07 release is dated September 9, 2025, and includes ARM64 support on Linux and macOS plus 3MF support. The site points usage questions to Stack Overflow and bug reports to GitHub, with video learning resources for basics, features, scanning workflows, and mesh cleaning.
Qlone
Qlone is a 3D scanner app for creating, editing and exporting models from real objects, available on iOS and macOS. Scanning can use a printable Qlone mat or mat-free AR and Photo modes; Photo mode supports 4K images. Editing tools can fill mesh holes, blur texture imperfections, simplify meshes, smooth or erase sections, and sculpt models. Export formats include OBJ, STL, FBX, GLB, PLY and X3D, with USDZ listed for iOS. The app also supports direct uploads to Sketchfab, i.materialise, Shapeways, Snapchat Lens Studio and CGTrader. Models can be shared as MP4 or GIF videos through iMessage, WhatsApp and other social platforms. The maker says mat-free scans are processed through Qlone Cloud and that it does not store or view users’ models; scans made with the mat are processed on the phone in real time. LiDAR is not required. The app is free to download, but premium export, animated AR view and 4K scanning require an upgrade. Premium Features costs 19.99 USD one-time and includes 50 cloud credits for mat-free scans.
