Overview

Mixos Mold is a browser-based sculpting tool for artists shaping organic 3D forms, especially those who want to work across desktop and mobile devices. Its broad sculpting and topology tools are available without charge, but getting a finished mesh out requires a paid plan or perpetual license.

Projects saved to an account can be reopened on other signed-in devices, while editing runs locally in the browser. The maker says projects, models, textures, brushes and prompts are not used to train AI models. Mixos is a one-person operation led by founder Matthew Guild in New York, with game artists, motion designers, hobbyists, students and studios among its intended users.

Key features

Sculpting and topology

Mold combines subdivision, dynamic topology, masking, symmetry, stamp alphas, brush presets and remeshing with automatic retopology, multiresolution sculpting and voxel sculpting. That breadth supports different approaches to shaping and refining a sculpt; the free plan includes unlimited sculpting, every brush and every subdivision level. The key catch is that free work cannot be downloaded as a finished mesh.

Models, texturing and handoff

OBJ, FBX and GLB models can be imported. Mold can unwrap a sculpt and send it to Mixos Paint for layered PBR texturing, offering a direct next step for users who want to texture their work. Pro and Max export finished meshes as GLB, OBJ or STL, and the perpetual license includes mesh export. The broader Mixos desktop app's Live Link streams materials into Blender, Cinema 4D and Unreal, but that is a separate handoff from Mold's sculpt-to-Paint workflow.

Privacy and support

Browser editing takes place locally; projects are stored after an account save. The maker says user projects, models, textures, brushes and prompts are not used for AI training. Support is by email, with in-app feedback that includes the app version. The security trade-off for studios is clear: Mixos has no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or equivalent audit, and offers no uptime guarantee.

Pricing

The free plan is free, billed $0 forever. It includes unlimited Mold sculpting, every brush and subdivision level, 10 trial AI credits and 100 MB of cloud storage. It suits learners and exploratory work, but mesh export requires a paid plan or perpetual license.

Pro costs 8.99 USD per month, billed monthly. It adds GLB, OBJ and STL mesh export, 50 AI credits/month, 25 GB of cloud storage and email support, making it the entry point for anyone who needs downloadable work. Max costs 17.99 USD per month, billed monthly; it includes everything in Pro, 150 AI credits/month, 50 GB of storage and priority support. The higher tier makes sense for heavier AI-credit or storage needs, rather than for a different Mold export format.

The perpetual license costs 99.00 USD per once, billed $99 once. It includes 4K watermark-free export forever, mesh export and 20 GB of cloud storage; AI credits are sold separately. It avoids a recurring subscription for users who chiefly need lasting export access, though Pro and Max bundle monthly AI credits and support. There is no free trial.

Platforms

Mold runs on the web and is supported across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. Desktop browser use requires WebGPU and Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Brave, or Safari 26+. On iPad and Android, it runs in a WebGPU-capable browser; it is also included in the free Mixos iOS app for iOS 26 or later. The browser-based setup avoids installation, but WebGPU and the Safari version requirement narrow compatibility on desktop. Account saves make it possible to resume projects across devices after sign-in.

Who it's for

Mold is a good fit for sculptors who value a substantial toolset, browser access and a route into Mixos Paint, and for students or hobbyists who want to sculpt before committing to export costs. It is less suited to anyone who needs dependable finished-mesh downloads at no cost, or to a studio that requires audited security or a guaranteed uptime commitment.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free plan keeps all brushes, subdivision levels and sculpting available without a stated usage cap, so users can develop work before paying.
Pro: Import, topology tools and a handoff to layered PBR texturing in Mixos Paint cover a useful stretch of the sculpt workflow.
Pro: Browser access, mobile options and account-based cross-device projects offer flexibility without an installation.
Con: Free users cannot download finished meshes, limiting the plan for production delivery.
Con: Desktop browser use depends on WebGPU, and Safari support requires version 26 or later.
Con: The maker has no equivalent security audit or uptime guarantee, a material concern for studios with formal reliability requirements.

Alternatives

Tamga is another freemium option with web and desktop platforms, including Linux and macOS. R3DS Wrap is a paid Windows and Linux alternative with a free education license and trial. Nomad Sculpt is worth considering for its listed iPhone and iPad sculpting and painting tools, PBR rendering, and glTF, OBJ and STL import and export. 3DCoat offers a freemium option and supports Linux, macOS and Windows; its listed individual node-locked plan is 379.00 EUR per month and includes 12 months of free updates.

Re:Form is a macOS and web alternative with a free plan capped at about 12.5 million triangles and five projects of up to 150 MB each. ZBrush has a free iPad plan with 28 brushes as well as a subscription option. AutoRemesher is a free, MIT-licensed option for Linux, macOS, Windows and self-hosting. SculptGL is a free web-based alternative with no paid plan or usage limits stated on its maker's pages.

Verdict

Choose Mixos Mold if you want a capable, cross-device sculpting tool with a free way to develop work and a direct route to Mixos Paint. Its strongest reason to leave it is the export gate: a finished mesh costs money, and studio buyers also have no uptime guarantee or equivalent security audit to rely on.
