Overview

Metronome Beats is a configurable metronome built chiefly for musicians who want to work on timing, meter and tempo changes. It suits practice that calls for more than a steady click, though its most useful organization tools sit behind Pro.

The web app and mobile apps cover different parts of the experience: Android and iOS purchases are separate, and the maker also lists macOS support. For a wider category view, see Metronome Apps.

Key features

Tempo and meter

The web app lets users set BPM, beats per bar and clicks per beat, with adjustments in 1 or 5 BPM steps. The listed ceiling is 900 BPM. On mobile, tap tempo is useful when matching a song or a pulse, while the speed trainer can change tempo gradually by bars or seconds, a practical aid for building or easing into a target pace.

Metronome Beats handles varied time signatures, including compound time, and allows subdivisions that do not assume each beat is a quarter note. Custom time signatures, subdivision control and polyrhythm support make it a stronger fit for musicians working with less conventional meters than a basic click-only tool.

Patterns and performance

The programmable drum machine adds patterns, multiple kits and mixer controls, giving practice a rhythmic reference beyond a single pulse. Pro adds songs with configurable sections, saved setlists and Live mode for moving through songs. Those features are most relevant to rehearsals and performances with an ordered repertoire; users who only need a metronome need not pay for that workflow.

Controls and account data

The Android guide says most Bluetooth pedals are supported and hardware media controls can operate the app. Signing in stores presets, setlists and songs for syncing, along with basic profile information from Google or Apple sign-in. Stonekick says users can request deletion of their account and data from its live database by emailing support. The free Android version shows personalized ads through Google and Amazon, which handle the ad data rather than Stonekick’s own servers.

Pricing

Metronome Beats (free): Free. The free app contains ads and in-app purchases, making it a sensible starting point for basic timing and tempo work, but not an ad-free option.

Metronome Beats Pro (iOS in-app purchase): 8.99 USD per once. It adds saved presets and setlists, song creation and advert removal. This is the relevant purchase for iOS users who want the practice-and-performance organization features; Android and iOS purchases are separate.

Platforms

Metronome Beats is listed for web, macOS, iOS and Android. The maker describes an online metronome as well as Android and iOS apps. Android pedal and media-control support is documented in its guide.

Who it's for

It is a strong match for musicians who need adjustable meter, subdivisions, polyrhythms or gradual tempo work, and for players who want to organize songs and setlists on iOS. The maker also describes using it for running, golf practice and breathing exercises. It is less compelling for someone seeking only a simple, ad-free mobile click or a unified purchase across both mobile platforms.

Pros and cons

Pros: Flexible meter and subdivision controls suit complex or compound rhythms.
Pros: Tap tempo, a speed trainer and a programmable drum machine support varied practice routines.
Pros: Pro’s songs, setlists and Live mode help structure rehearsals and performances.
Cons: The free Android app displays personalized ads, and ad removal is bundled with the iOS Pro purchase rather than presented as a single cross-platform purchase.
Cons: Android and iOS purchases are separate, so users moving between platforms should expect distinct transactions.

Alternatives

True Metronome is worth considering for users who want a free tier with its stated 20–400 BPM range, all time signatures and background playback, or who value a free trial.

Bounce Metronome Pro is a desktop alternative for Linux, macOS and Windows users.

Easy Metronome may suit users who prefer a free-to-download app across Android, iOS, macOS and Windows, with optional sound-pack purchases.

MagicBPM is another option across Android, iOS, macOS and web; its core app is free, with ads on iPhone and Android and an ad-free Mac app.

PolyMetronome is a relevant alternative for users looking specifically for a simple free mode on Android, iOS or web, with advanced modes in Pro.

The Metronome by Soundbrenner offers core app features for free on Android, iOS and macOS.

Yames is a free desktop option for Linux, macOS and Windows that works offline without an account.

Pro Metronome may fit users who want an ad-free basic version on Android or iOS, with a one-time Pro option listed at 3.99 USD.

Verdict

Choose Metronome Beats if your practice benefits from flexible meter, tempo training and, on iOS Pro, song and setlist organization. Its main drawback is the split mobile purchasing, compounded by ads in the free Android app; users who want only a basic, ad-free click should look elsewhere.
