Overview

Nextiva combines inbound and outbound calling with business SMS, video meetings, screen and file sharing, and team chat. Call routing, auto attendants, forwarding, recording, voicemail transcription, and local and toll-free numbers add useful control over everyday call flows. That breadth suits teams moving beyond a voice-only setup; it is less compelling if a business needs only basic calling or wants contact-center functions without stepping up to a higher-priced plan.

Each phone line requires at least 100 kbps of upload speed. Since the requirement scales with the number of lines, businesses should account for concurrent lines when checking their connection.

Key features

Calling and collaboration

Core includes voice, business SMS, video meetings, screen and file sharing, call routing, team chat, and a mobile app. For small teams, that is a broad communications base in one plan. Nextiva also lists auto attendants, call forwarding, call recording, voicemail transcription, and local and toll-free numbers. Those call-handling tools can support more organized inbound service, though the plan distinctions matter: Engage is the tier that explicitly adds inbound call-center features.

Contact-center additions

Engage adds customer-to-team SMS, toll-free number and minutes, advanced reporting, inbound call center, live chat, and chatbot. Those additions make it the more relevant choice for teams handling customer interactions across voice and chat, but the jump from Core is substantial. Scale, at $75.00 USD per month, lists voice and web chat, blended inbound and outbound, AI transcription and summary, skills-based routing, and journey orchestration. It targets more involved contact-center workflows rather than teams seeking only a low-cost business phone.

Apps, integrations, and security

Apps are available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with a Chrome extension for Nextiva Contact Center. Integrations include Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Microsoft Teams, and Zendesk; businesses needing another integration should confirm its availability with Nextiva. The company says its data centers are independently audited, calls are encrypted with TLS and SRTP, and it lists SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA with signed BAAs, GDPR, and HITRUST. All plans include 24/7 customer support.

Pricing

Core costs $15.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes inbound and outbound voice, business SMS, video meetings, screen and file sharing, call routing, and team chat. It is the sensible starting point for small businesses that want those core communication tools without customer-to-team messaging or the additional contact-center features.

Engage costs $25.00 USD per month, billed monthly. It includes everything in Core plus customer-to-team SMS, toll-free number and minutes, advanced reporting, inbound call center, live chat, and chatbot. Choose it when those customer-service functions justify the extra monthly cost; otherwise Core covers a wider range of needs for less.

Scale costs $75.00 USD per month and lists voice and web chat, blended inbound and outbound, AI transcription and summary, skills-based routing, and journey orchestration. It is aimed at teams with more advanced contact-center needs, not businesses looking simply to add a phone system. The separate contact-center Essential plan starts at $ 75 /agent/mo; Professional and Premium require contacting sales. The product has no free plan or free trial.

Platforms

Nextiva supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows, as well as a Chrome extension. That range accommodates desktop and mobile teams, while the extension specifically integrates Nextiva Contact Center into the browser.

Who it's for

Nextiva is a strong fit for small companies that want voice, messaging, meetings, and collaboration together, with a path toward contact-center features as their needs expand. Engage suits teams that need inbound call-center tools and live chat; Scale is for more advanced routing and customer-journey workflows. Businesses with limited upload capacity per phone line, or those that do not need the broader feature set, should compare simpler options.

Pros and cons

Pros: Core bundles voice, SMS, meetings, file and screen sharing, and team chat at $15.00 USD per month billed monthly.
Pros: Engage adds inbound call-center, live-chat, and chatbot capabilities for teams that need customer-service tools beyond phone calls.
Pros: Desktop and mobile apps cover Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, and all plans include 24/7 customer support.
Cons: The 100 kbps upload requirement applies to each phone line, which makes connection capacity an important consideration as lines scale.
Cons: The step from Core at $15.00 USD per month to Scale at $75.00 USD per month is steep for businesses that need only a few additional call-handling features.
Cons: There is no free plan or trial, so teams cannot use a free tier or trial period to evaluate the service.

Alternatives

For teams focused on workforce management rather than a hosted phone system, Daktela WFM offers a free Admin plan for users without scheduled shifts and a paid Agent plan at 20.0, plus a free trial. GetWFM has a free Team plan for up to three teams, one timezone, and one month of history, with unlimited employees. If a contact-center product with custom pricing better fits, 8x8 Contact Center uses a sales quote, while QStory Workforce Management, Aspect Workforce, and Verint Workforce Management also require a pricing discussion or quote. CCsuite and Alvaria Cloud are additional paid alternatives.

Verdict

Choose Nextiva if your small business wants calling, messaging, meetings, and collaboration under one roof, with contact-center options as operations grow. Its strongest case is the range of communication tools across plans; the main reasons to look elsewhere are the per-line upload requirement and the higher cost of advanced contact-center capabilities.
