MindMapVault vs Thortspace

MindMapVault is an encrypted vault for creating, editing, and storing mind maps, notes, attachments, and map relationships. For cloud use, map content is encrypted on the device with AES-256-GCM before upload, and the server stores ciphertext; its hybrid key encapsulation combines X25519 and ML-KEM-768. Cloud Free provides 25 MB encrypted storage, three active shares, five published maps, and a 5 MB maximum file size. Cloud Pro costs $50 a year and provides 1 GB, 100 active shares, effectively unlimited published maps, and a 50 MB maximum file size. A free desktop-local app and self-hosted Docker deployment are also listed. The desktop app works offline without an account or server and keeps data on the device. The web app can be installed as a PWA on iPhone and Android, with offline use supported. Imports include FreeMind, Freeplane, WiseMapping, XMind, and Markdown; exports include JSON, Markdown, FreeMind, PNG, and PDF. There is no real-time collaboration, and credentials cannot be recovered for existing encrypted vault contents if lost.

Thortspace is 3D visual thinking software for brainstorming, project management, problem solving, collaborative research, education, and presentations. Users arrange ideas called thorts and groups, draw paths between them, and link spheres into networks. Do Mode turns insights into action plans, while Present Mode shapes them into presentations. Pictures, text, and web links can be dragged in from other applications. The software supports real-time collaboration, offline mode, and AI assistance, and runs on web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Local spheres can be used without an account. Free accounts are restricted to public spheres, and syncing and collaboration are limited to a limited number of public spheres; published spheres include ads. Premium adds internet picture search and full-text sphere search. Content Reader costs $4.99 a month after a 7-day free trial, Premium costs $14.99 a month with a 14-day free trial, and Business costs $15 a month. The maker is based in London and Dorset, United Kingdom.
