| Documentation | The documentation includes tutorials, concepts, installation guidance, feature references, options and addon examples. | Documentation covers setup, certificates, traffic filtering, API Client use, advanced tools, security, limitations, and Guard CI onboarding. |
| Installation | Official installation paths cover macOS Homebrew, Linux binaries, Windows installers, PyPI, WSL and Docker images. | The Mac app is installed either from a downloadable DMG or with the Homebrew cask command shown in the setup guide. |
| Limit: certificate pinning | Independent reviews report that applications using certificate pinning reject the proxy certificate and require separate bypass work such as instrumentation or repackaging. | Apps using certificate or public-key pinning reject ProxyHawk interception unless a debug build or test bypass disables pinning. |
| Support | Usage questions and bug reports are directed to GitHub Discussions and the project repository. | The Team plan includes priority email support, and the pricing page offers a seven-day refund guarantee. |
| What it does | mitmproxy is an interactive SSL/TLS-capable proxy for inspecting, modifying and replaying HTTP, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, WebSocket and other protected traffic. | ProxyHawk is a native macOS HTTP/HTTPS proxy debugger for inspecting and modifying application traffic. |

In their own words
mitmproxy
mitmproxy is a free set of tools for inspecting and changing traffic sent through a proxy. It handles HTTP/1, HTTP/2, WebSocket, and SSL/TLS traffic, and can intercept HTTP and HTTPS requests and responses for editing. Conversations can be saved for later analysis, and users can replay client requests or recorded server responses. The project provides an interactive console, a browser-based GUI, and non-interactive terminal output through mitmproxy, mitmweb, and mitmdump. Proxy modes include regular, local capture, WireGuard, reverse, transparent, TUN, upstream, SOCKS5, and DNS. Python addons can alter behavior in response to events and expose commands. WireGuard mode can capture traffic from external devices or individual Android apps. A built-in certificate authority generates interception certificates as needed. Installation options cover Windows, macOS, Linux, PyPI, and official Docker images. The project says it does not phone home or check for updates. Documentation notes that HTTP/3 client replay is currently broken; dependencies in precompiled binaries and Docker images are fixed at release and cannot be updated in place.
ProxyHawk
ProxyHawk is a native macOS proxy debugger for capturing and inspecting HTTP traffic from Mac apps, iPhones, iOS Simulator, Android devices, and Android emulators. Mobile traffic routes through the Mac, where capture and display happen locally without uploading HTTP content to a vendor cloud. Its API Client composes and replays requests, imports cURL, and exports Postman collections with environment variables. API Guard checks responses for removed fields, changed types, and missing array items, and can alert through Slack and email. Other tools include breakpoints, block rules, local and remote mapping, scripts, network throttling, request and response editing, and response mocking. Shared sessions strip Authorization headers, cookies, and tokens client-side; links expire after seven days. ProxyHawk requires macOS 13 or later and has no Windows or Linux version. The Free plan captures up to 500 requests per day but excludes SSL/TLS decryption, breakpoints, block rules, scripting, and mapping. Paid plans start at ₹417/mo, and a free trial is offered.
