In their own words
mnemiq
mnemiq is an open-source text-to-SQL engine for enterprise data agents, configured and measured against a user's own database. Before execution, a deterministic check verifies that proposed SQL is read-only, uses permitted objects, compiles in the source dialect, and passes EXPLAIN. Access permissions apply before schema retrieval, so the model is not shown tables the caller cannot access. Each answer includes the SQL run, the tables it touched, and the enrichment version used. mnemiq can profile columns and build descriptions, grain, glossary terms, and coded-value meanings; a human owner can certify semantic definitions. Listed databases are PostgreSQL, SQLite, DuckDB, Oracle, Snowflake, and Databricks, with DuckDB as the universal executor. Models can use any OpenAI-compatible /v1 endpoint, including local servers such as vLLM, Ollama, llama.cpp server, and LM Studio. Its MCP server offers two read-only, access-scoped tools: db_read(question) and get_schema(). One process can also serve a workbench and HTTP endpoints for asking, chatting, and retrieving schema. The Apache-2.0 engine is free and runs in the user's environment. Local model hosting keeps schemas, questions, and rows inside the user's network, according to the maker.
Text2SQL.ai
Text2SQL.ai converts natural-language requests into SQL and also provides query explanation, fixing, and optimization. Users can supply database tables, columns, and relationships as schema context so generated queries can reflect their database structure. Its Insights view combines a generated query with its results, a chart, and an explanation. Direct connections are supported for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server; other databases can use extraction scripts or AI schema parsing. Safe Mode validates generated queries to help guard connected databases against accidental or malicious modifications. The cloud service is available on the web and through an API, with desktop apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux included in Pro subscriptions. The public API supports SQL generation for Pro and higher plans, and requests use plan credits. Pro includes 100 API requests per month, with additional requests listed at $0.05 each. Pricing starts at $29/user/mo, and a free trial is offered without a stated duration. The maker says it stores database schemas and SQL-related chat messages, but not actual database data. For the desktop app, it says credentials stay on the device and only schema names go to AI providers.
