In their own words
Moara
Moara is a web-based AI research platform for literature reviews, supporting work from discovery through evidence synthesis. Researchers can search, organize, screen, and extract evidence in one workspace, then use its Agent to summarize papers, identify themes and gaps, compare findings, and answer research requests. It supports narrative and systematic reviews, including workflows aligned with PRISMA and Cochrane guidelines. Moara says its database contains more than 200 million scholarly papers across disciplines. Users can import PDFs, RIS, NBIB, TXT, or ZIP files and connect Zotero and LibKey. Teams can assign papers, share annotations, and follow review progress in real time. The Free plan allows up to 50 papers per review library. Core is $15/mo billed annually; Pro is $40/mo billed annually. Moara states that stored data is encrypted with AES-256 and data in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher, with internal access controls and role-based permissions. It says it does not sell personal data or use personal information for advertising.
RobotReviewer
RobotReviewer analyzes clinical trial reports by annotating PDFs with PICO characteristics and likely bias assessments using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Uploading PDFs on the website extracts key data and presents a summary table. Its REST API can process groups of clinical trial reports to synthesize results across trials. The project is open source under GNU GPL version 3.0 and is free to use. It can run locally as Docker services, with a web app and API server exposed on local ports. The self-hosted processing setup uses Grobid, RabbitMQ, Celery, and SciBERT through bert-as-a-service. Docker instructions cover GPU use, and the worker can also run CPU-only. Manual setup calls for Python 3.6, TensorFlow 1.12.0, and the associated processing services. Installation is documented as tested on Ubuntu and Mac OS; Windows works with substantial installation difficulty. Maintainers ask users to cite the 2017 ACL paper and invite questions by email, including requests for help integrating RobotReviewer into other software.
