Overview

Moodis keeps the workflow centered on collecting and composing images rather than turning a board into a broader project workspace. Users can make unlimited boards, move between them, and export finished layouts. That makes it a focused choice for visual reference work, but a poor fit for anyone who needs macOS today or wants a product outside beta.

Key features

The infinite canvas supports panning, zooming, free placement, and optional grid snapping. Resizing, rotation, layering, and keyboard shortcuts give users useful control over composition without adding complexity unrelated to image boards. Exports are available as PNG or JPEG, suitable for sharing a static layout, though they do not replace collaborative access.

The desktop app works offline and stores boards and images on the user's machine; cloud sync is opt-in. That is a strong fit for artists who prefer local working files. Pro adds web access, cloud sync, and shareable board links, while Team adds real-time collaborative editing and guest access for group workflows.

Cloud images are encrypted at rest and stored in the European Union, and account passwords are hashed by the authentication provider. The maker says it does not sell user data or share it with advertisers or data brokers. Named service providers include Supabase, Wasabi, Bunny CDN, Vercel, Plausible Analytics, Lemon Squeezy, Resend, Sentry, and Google Fonts. Support is available at support@moodis.app.

Pricing

Free costs €0/forever and includes local mood boards and unlimited boards for personal, non-commercial use. It is enough for private projects, but client work, freelancing, and other commercial use require a paid plan.

Pro costs €5/mo and includes 99 GB of cloud storage, cloud sync, and sharing. It is the sensible step up for commercial solo users or anyone who needs web access and shareable links, without paying for team seats.

Team costs €50/mo for three included users, with 999 GB of cloud storage; additional users cost €10/user/mo. It is aimed at groups that need collaborative editing and guest access, but is a substantial jump from Pro for a solo workflow. Moodis also offers a 14-day trial. It is currently in beta, and features may change and results are not guaranteed.

Platforms

Moodis runs on Windows 10 or later, Linux x86_64, and the web. Linux users get an AppImage, but no .deb, .rpm, Flatpak, Snap, Arch, or ARM/aarch64 build, which narrows its appeal for users who rely on those packaging formats or hardware. macOS is coming soon, so it is not an option for Mac users now.

Who it's for

Moodis is a good match for artists who want a dedicated image canvas, unlimited boards, and offline local storage, and for teams that need shared editing. It is less suitable for commercial users who want to stay on a free plan, Mac users, or Linux users whose systems require an ARM build or a package other than AppImage. Beta status also makes it a less reassuring choice for work that depends on stable, guaranteed behavior.

Pros and cons

Pros: Offline desktop use and local storage, with cloud sync optional, suit privacy-conscious solo work.
Pros: Unlimited boards and PNG/JPEG export support separating projects and sharing static compositions.
Pros: Pro and Team add cloud sharing and real-time collaboration for users who need to work across devices or with others.
Cons: Commercial work is excluded from Free, so freelancers and client-facing artists need a paid plan.
Cons: macOS support is not available yet, and Linux distribution is limited to x86_64 AppImage.
Cons: Beta status means features may change and results are not guaranteed.

Alternatives

Browse Mood Board Software for more options. Choose Adobe Firefly instead if you want a freemium tool with limited daily generations and Android, iOS, API, and web platforms. PureRef is another freemium option with a free plan and support for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

Rayon is worth considering if you need a free editing experience with public models and limited PDF and DWG export. Choose Milanote if you want a broader web and mobile reach, with its free plan capped at 100 notes, images, or links and 10 file uploads. Mattoboard is a web-based option with a free tier built around limited AI credits, images per board, and renders.

ShootVision may suit users seeking moodboards alongside basic shoot planning, with a free plan for essential features. ShopLook is a freemium option available on web, mobile, and as a browser extension. Soleil Clusters offers a free demo across web and mobile platforms.

Verdict

Choose Moodis if you want an image-first reference canvas with offline local desktop storage, unlimited boards, and an upgrade path to cloud sharing or team collaboration. The main reasons to look elsewhere are the paid-only permission for commercial work, beta uncertainty, and the absence of a current macOS app or broad Linux packaging.
