In their own words

Moodle LMS

Moodle LMS is offered here as MoodleCloud, a managed and hosted learning platform for individuals selling courses and small organisations. Users can create unlimited courses with unlimited activities, while the Moodle team maintains sites and updates them to the latest Moodle LMS version. Plans accommodate 50 to 750 users, with storage from 1 GB on Starter to 50 GB on Standard. All plans include the Moodle App Premium plan at no extra cost.

Course payments are supported through Stripe and PayPal integrations; Stripe course selling is listed for Small, Medium, and Standard plans. Custom domains are available on Medium and Standard: the Medium add-on costs $160 AUD per year, while Standard includes one. MoodleCloud sites cannot install plugins or integrations. Support includes a knowledge base, priority assistance, and contact through the MoodleCloud Portal. Paid plans are billed annually in Australian Dollars, and no plan prices are listed. The Starter trial lasts 28 days and requires no credit card; plans can be upgraded through the Customer Portal.

Open edX

Open edX is an open-source platform for teaching and learning, combining course authoring tools with a learner-facing learning management system. Open edX Studio supports creating, managing, reusing and remixing course content. Aspects analytics turns enrollment, learner progress, assessment performance, forum activity and video engagement into metrics and visualizations. The platform supports LTI 1.3 integrations and extensible course components called XBlocks. Listed sign-in integrations include SAML and OAuth 2.0 providers such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft and LinkedIn. Open edX supports assessments, certificates, APIs and mobile apps, and can be self-hosted. Universities, governments, nongovernmental organizations and enterprises use the platform. Institutions control their content, learner data, hosting environment and governance policies. The software has no license fees, but an organization operating an instance must arrange hosting, infrastructure, maintenance, support and customization. Organizations can seek implementation help from service partners. The project began in 2012 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its security process directs vulnerability reports to its Security Working Group and does not offer bug bounties.
