| Spec score · Network Automation Software | 8.3 (#4) | 7.9 (#9) |
| Automation | The platform includes runbook automation and intent-based automation tools for managing network operations. | It is designed to gather output from show commands and make configuration changes while abstracting away low-level device state handling. |
| Integrations | NetBrain supports MCP connections with external AI, observability, APM, and ITSM systems, and names Claude, GPT-4, Gemini, Splunk, ThousandEyes, BMC, ServiceNow, and Jira. | The examples include TextFSM and Genie parsers, plus device type autodetection using SSH and SNMP. |
| Support | NetBrain Standard Support offers phone support 24×5, excluding holidays, through its global technical support team. | The README directs users to GitHub issues for bugs and feature requests and to a Slack #netmiko channel for questions and discussion. |

In their own words
NetBrain
NetBrain is an agentic network-operations platform for teams managing complex, multi-vendor networks. It uses live network context to help diagnose issues, assess risk, and manage changes across physical, virtual, cloud, and software-defined infrastructure. Its model includes device configuration, utilization, software versions, and topology; it maps Layer 2, Layer 3, overlay, and underlay networks and calculates paths across datacenter, WAN, and cloud. Named agents include Deep Diagnosis for root-cause analysis, Assessment for network checks, Change for governed runbooks, and Companion for everyday needs. NetBrain says agents read before writing and require user approval before execution. Runbook and intent-based automation support network operations. Connections include MCP, REST APIs, and webhooks, with named integrations such as ServiceNow, BigPanda, Dynatrace, Copilot, Gemini, and Claude. Its documentation describes role-based authentication, external authentication, password controls, and audit logs. The platform offers hybrid deployment and a time-limited trial license, but pricing is on request. NetBrain says it is not designed as a network-wide 24×7 monitoring solution and complements monitoring products.
Netmiko
Netmiko is a free Python library for connecting to network devices and automating command-line tasks. It simplifies SSH connections and also documents supported Telnet device types. The library can collect output from show commands and make configuration changes while handling low-level device state. Its device list spans vendors and separates platforms by regular, limited, and experimental testing status. Regularly tested examples include Arista vEOS, Cisco IOS variants and NX-OS, Juniper Junos, and Linux. Documentation shows how to install with pip, connect to devices, run commands such as “show ip int brief,” and send configuration command sets that enter configuration mode. The project also links to API documentation, a secure copy tutorial, and guidance on using TextFSM. Optional extras support the bulk-encryption CLI and compatibility with Paramiko 4. Netmiko Tools can encrypt sensitive YAML values using Fernet or AES128; the guidance recommends protecting the key and keeping it out of version control. The project uses the MIT license, with bug reports and feature requests directed to GitHub issues.
