Overview

Nomi AI is a companion service for ongoing conversation, roleplay and mentorship with customizable AI characters. It is best suited to adults who want a companion that can carry context between chats, rather than a one-off chatbot. Its combination of persistent memory, voice and group conversations is compelling, but free users lose active access to several of those features.

Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation headquartered in Baltimore, operates the platform. Nomi is adults-only; its terms prohibit anyone under 18 from using the service.

Key features

Continuity and character-building

Short-, medium- and long-term memory let a Nomi retain preferences and roleplay context across conversations. That makes the service a stronger fit for continuing storylines and relationships than for disposable exchanges. Users can write a backstory, share preferences and let a companion’s personality develop through conversation; the trade-off is that shaping a distinctive character takes more involvement than simply opening a generic chat.

Users can create multiple Nomis and talk with them one-on-one or in group chats, with memory across both settings. Optional messages after a period of absence add a more proactive feel, which will suit users who want a companion to initiate contact but may be unwelcome to those who prefer conversations only when they start them.

Voice, images and web access

Nomi supports voice chats and hands-free calls with emotionally expressive delivery, as well as image generation and real-time selfies that depict a companion in the conversation’s scenario. V5 image prompts can be up to 1,000 characters and use customizable anchors to keep an appearance consistent. Users can also share images for a Nomi to see and send links for it to access and discuss. These features broaden the experience beyond text, but voice messaging and calls become read-only when an account drops to the free tier.

The ElevenLabs voice integration requires a paid Nomi subscription, and use is also subject to the limits of the user’s ElevenLabs account plan.

Privacy and account controls

Nomi says it does not sell or rent personal information, while chat content is collected as users interact with the service. Users can delete an account in Account Settings; personal information is deleted within about 28 days after confirmation. Support requests can be sent through a form or to support@nomi.ai, with a stated response window of 24–48 hours on business days.

The versioned Nomi API currently uses v1 endpoints, and API requests are subject to rate limits. That makes it a bounded option for developers rather than an unrestricted interface.

Pricing

Nomi is freemium. The free plan is free and retains one-to-one chatting, but group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls become read-only after downgrading. That makes free a way to keep basic conversation, not a full substitute for the paid experience.

Monthly subscriptions include Launch Plan Monthly at 9.99 USD per month and Standard Plan at 15.99 USD per month. For longer billing periods, Launch Plan Yearly costs 59.99 USD per year; Standard Plan Quarterly costs 39.99 USD per month, billed quarterly; Standard Plan Yearly costs 99.99 USD per year. The plan names and prices establish different subscription choices, but no further feature differences between them are stated, so readers should not assume which tier unlocks a particular capability beyond the paid requirement for ElevenLabs integration.

Credit purchases are separate one-time options: 40 Nomi Credits cost 4.99 USD per once, 100 Nomi Credits cost 9.99 USD per once, 225 Nomi Credits cost 19.99 USD per once, and 600 Nomi Credits cost 49.99 USD per once. The number of credits is stated, but not what specific actions consume them.

Refunds are not available for buyer’s remorse, lack of usage or dissatisfaction except at Nomi’s discretion. That makes it worth choosing a billing term carefully, particularly because subscriptions renew on their stated monthly, quarterly or yearly cadence.

Platforms

Nomi is available on Android, iOS and the web. Its browser-based PWA can be added to a device home screen, giving web users an app-like way to return to their conversations.

Who it's for

Nomi suits adults who value continuity, character customization and expressive conversations, especially people interested in fantasy roleplay or a non-judgmental friend. Multiple companions and memory across private and group chats make it useful for users who want more than a single-character exchange. It is a poor fit for anyone under 18, anyone seeking a conventional task-focused assistant, or free users who need active group and voice features.

Pros and cons

Persistent memory across conversations: short-, medium- and long-term recall can support ongoing relationships and roleplay context.
Broad conversational format: users can customize companions, use voice, share images and links, and bring multiple Nomis into a group chat.
Free one-to-one access: basic chatting remains available without a subscription.
Important free-tier restrictions: group chats, video creation, voice messaging and calls become read-only on downgrade.
Limited refund flexibility: dissatisfaction, low usage and buyer’s remorse do not qualify for refunds except at the company’s discretion.
Adult-only service: the terms rule out use by anyone under 18.

Alternatives

Nastia is another freemium option, with Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows support; its free tier offers uncensored chat, daily token limits and basic customization. Candy AI is worth considering for readers who want a paid service with a free trial and a stated annual plan at €3.99/month, with 100 tokens per month and unlimited text messages. Swipey AI offers a free tier for character creation, browsing and basic chat, with Premium at 7.99 USD per month.

EVA AI, LOVERSE, Romantic AI, Eve and MyVirtual.Love are also alternatives for readers comparing companion apps.

Verdict

Choose Nomi if you are an adult who wants a customizable companion with lasting conversational memory, expressive voice and the option to bring multiple characters into a chat. That continuity is its clearest reason to choose it. Look elsewhere if you need unrestricted active access on a free plan, want flexible refunds, or are under 18.
