Northflank vs Weave GitOps

Northflank is a developer platform for building and running applications made up of microservices, databases, background jobs, and scheduled tasks. It handles container builds, networking, and orchestration, and offers managed Kubernetes across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Deployments can use Northflank infrastructure, cloud accounts from AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle, or CoreWeave, or imported Kubernetes clusters, including bare-metal and on-premises environments. Git integrations include hosted and self-hosted services; the platform also supports container registries and observability tools. Teams can use its UI, CLI, REST API, GitOps, reusable templates, pipelines, and preview environments. Northflank says secrets and files are encrypted at rest with AES-256, secrets are injected at runtime, and managed-cloud workloads use isolation controls. It states that it is SOC 2 Type 2 and HIPAA compliant; ISO 27001/27018 is listed as unavailable. The free Sandbox includes two services, one database, and two cron jobs with always-on compute. A payment method is required before creating resources, including on the free plan. Basic email support is included in all plans.

Weave GitOps extends Flux with deployment insights and tools for continuous delivery across teams. Its dashboard lets operators inspect application lifecycles, detect drift, check cluster health, roll back changes, and monitor operations. Both Open Source and Enterprise require a running Kubernetes cluster. The free Open Source edition includes a GitOps CLI for macOS and Linux. Enterprise adds deployment across multiple clusters in cloud and hybrid environments using Git and Cluster API. It supports canary, blue/green, and A/B rollouts, with success and rollback criteria based on metrics from Prometheus, Datadog, or New Relic. Enterprise also offers policy-as-code checks at commit, build, deploy, and runtime stages, plus team workspaces, multi-tenancy, role-based access, and enterprise identity integration. OIDC login and Kubernetes RBAC govern access. Infrastructure integrations include Terraform, Crossplane, and any Cluster API provider. Enterprise advertises critical 24/7 support for workloads and requires an entitlement from Weaveworks. The Open Source installation guide notes that dashboard login sessions are not persisted when scaling to multiple replicas.
