Novelcrafter vs Plot Factory

Novelcrafter is a writing platform for authors across genres, forms, and styles, from beginners to published writers. Its long-form writing tools include a Codex wiki for characters, places, lore, and other story information, with entries automatically tracked and linked. A planning grid arranges acts, chapters, and scenes, while a matrix gives an at-a-glance story view. Authors can import Word, Markdown, or HTML files and export their work, and the platform is mobile compatible for jotting down ideas or reviewing stories. Listed AI options include OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Mistral AI, OpenRouter, LM Studio, and Ollama. Hobbyist and higher plans allow authors to bring their own AI key. The service has a 21-day trial but no free plan. Scribe costs $4.00 per month, billed monthly; higher plans add AI with a user's own key, chat, advanced review features, and collaborative writing with team management. The privacy policy says creative content is not used to train AI or machine-learning models, and data may be stored in the EU or US, with the EU primary. The company was founded in 2023 and is based in Hamburg, Germany.

Plot Factory is a browser-based story planner for organizing and writing fiction, including connected fictional universes. Its editor arranges work into chapters and scenes, with character lists, notes, and planning tools. A universe notebook can be linked to one or more books. Writers can share a chapter or a full novel by URL, and readers do not need an account to read shared work. Listed export formats include Word, ePub, Text, PDF, and HTML. The narration generator supports English accents and female voices. The editor is available in a browser on PC, tablet, or phone and is optimized for mobile phones. The free plan allows one story and limits daily narrations, but does not restrict how many words users can write. Paid plans start at $9/mo, and a 14-day trial is listed. Plot Factory has no offline mode, and real-time collaboration is not available; the FAQ says invited collaborators need accounts and the host needs a Novelist subscription.
