| License | The project is licensed under GNU General Public License v2.0. | The maker describes stand-alone deployment as an annual subscription; the quick-start guide also describes a yearly dongle license and says inactive demo controls are not enabled. |
| Purpose | nwipe securely erases block devices and can wipe one drive or multiple disks in parallel. | XErase sanitizes connected drives using erasure methods defined by standards including NIST and DoD. |
| Support | The project welcomes bug reports, feature requests, and pull requests on GitHub and asks reporters to include their distribution, nwipe version, hardware details, logs, and command-line options. | Customers can submit support requests for XErase and upload debug logs, device logs and diagnostic ZIP files. |

In their own words
nwipe
nwipe is a free Linux utility for securely erasing block devices, either one drive at a time or multiple disks in parallel. It runs from the command line or through an ncurses-based graphical interface. Erase methods include zero and one fills, DoD and Gutmann wipes, verification passes, and BMB21-2019. For supported drives, the GUI also offers ATA and NVMe hardware-native block erase, cryptographic scramble, and pattern overwrite. Random-pattern methods can use selectable pseudorandom generators, including AES-256-CTR and ChaCha20. I/O modes include automatic, direct, and cached; automatic mode falls back to cached I/O if direct I/O is unsupported. hdparm is required at runtime, while smartmontools and dmidecode are optional recommended tools for features such as SMART certificate data and HPA/DCO detection. nwipe can generate a three-page PDF certificate. Hardware-sanitize options are interactive in the GUI and cannot be batched with automated multi-drive commands such as autonuke. Legacy ATA Secure Erase and freeze-lock handling are not supported.
XErase
XErase automates secure erasure for individual drives, enclosures and storage arrays. It supports Windows installation, PXE network boot, USB boot and stand-alone erasure stations. Stand-alone deployment offers more than 35 erasure and validation options, including NIST verification support; users can also create methods during use and configure methods based on NIST and DoD approaches. Erasure reports are tamper-proof and available in PDF, XML, CSV and TXT formats. In PXE and USB deployments, one server can remotely control hundreds of systems. PXE workflows can collect system and physical-condition information, run burn-in tests, inject drivers, and automate re-imaging and application installation. Per-device logs stay on the erasure station or PXE server; XErase does not provide a customer-data database. ERP connections include Makor, Razor and CycleLution, and database integration may require additional licensing. XErase requires Windows 10 or Windows Server, an x64 Intel or AMD processor and 8 GB of memory. Pricing is on request; an annual subscription is described, and a free-trial request form is available.
