Overview

Veryfi Invoices OCR API converts invoices into structured data and OCR text for software workflows. It is best suited to teams building accounts-payable, bill-pay, or purchase-order matching processes. Its broad extraction and document checks are useful, but the paid entry point carries a $500 monthly minimum.

The API returns JSON with supplier details, line items, tax, payment information, and totals, and Veryfi says it supports more than 150 fields. It accepts PDFs and images and is designed to handle variation in invoice structure, geography, and language. That combination is a strong fit when invoices need to feed downstream systems rather than remain isolated documents.

Key features

Extraction and document checks

Field-level output and OCR text give developers both structured values for processing and recognized text for downstream applications. Line-item extraction and PO matching support workflows that go beyond basic text recognition. Veryfi also describes checks for altered or duplicate invoices, including digital tampering analysis, PDF layer analysis, and duplicate detection; these can help flag documents for review, not replace it.

A transaction is one document of up to 15 pages. Longer invoices require a custom account configuration, so organizations handling lengthy documents should confirm that arrangement before adopting the standard plan.

Development, integrations, and safeguards

SDKs and code samples cover Python, Node.js, PHP, C#, and Java, among other languages. n8n and Zapier integrations provide workflow connections. API documentation, FAQs, human expert support, and a free demo are offered.

Veryfi states that its platform is SOC 2 Type II certified and uses TLS 1.2 and 1.3, salted password hashing, and AES encryption at rest and in transit. It says it complies with GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA, and will sign a BAA upon request. These controls and compliance commitments may suit teams with defined data-handling requirements.

Pricing

The pricing model is freemium, with a free plan and paid plans starting at $500/mo. The free plan is billed monthly, costs $0 per invoice, and covers up to 100 documents per month. It is a sensible way to evaluate a small workflow, but its document cap is not a substitute for sustained production volume.

Starter costs 500.00 USD per month, billed monthly, with a $500/mo minimum commitment. It charges $0.16 per invoice and includes 0–25,000 transactions per month, with a 15-page maximum per transaction. The commitment makes this a better fit for teams with recurring invoice volume than occasional users; the page limit also matters for long-document workloads.

Growth uses volume discounts and custom pricing through sales. It includes unlimited storage, custom data retention, and SLA options, making it the plan to discuss for larger or more tailored deployments. Its price is custom pricing.

Platforms

Veryfi lists Android, iOS, web, and API platforms. For developer-led integrations, the API is central; the mobile and web platform listings may also suit teams using those environments.

Who it's for

This is aimed at accounts-payable and bill-pay teams, as well as organizations matching invoices against purchase orders. It is especially relevant when line items, broad field coverage, OCR text, and invoice-integrity checks need to flow into software. Small users with fewer than 100 monthly documents can start free, while teams that cannot justify the monthly minimum or need documents over 15 pages without custom configuration should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 150 supported fields and structured JSON, including line items, tax, payment data, and totals, can support detailed downstream processing.
Pros: OCR text and checks for altered or duplicate invoices add useful outputs beyond field extraction.
Pros: SDKs, code samples, and n8n and Zapier integrations give developers several connection paths.
Cons: Starter requires a $500/mo minimum commitment, a steep threshold for low-volume or occasional use.
Cons: Standard transactions stop at 15 pages, with longer documents requiring custom configuration.
Cons: Free use is capped at 100 documents per month, limiting its role for larger live workflows.

Verdict

Choose Veryfi when an engineering-led AP or bill-pay workflow needs structured invoice fields, OCR text, and checks for duplicates or tampering in one API. Its breadth and developer connections are compelling, but the $500 monthly minimum and 15-page transaction ceiling make it a poor fit for occasional processing or unconfigured long documents.
