Overview

Volunteers can submit hours online, through the mobile app, or at an onsite check-in. Organizations can turn those records into reports immediately, group or filter the results, and export them to Excel. That breadth makes the service more useful than a basic hour log for programs that need to review participation across events or track progress toward requirements.

Calendars let organizations publish events, collect RSVPs, and customize notifications. Event verification can tie participation to hour logging, while milestones give volunteers and organizers a view of progress toward configured goals. These tools work well together for structured service programs; groups that only need to record hours may find the event and milestone layer unnecessary.

Key features

Volunteer and administrator workflows

The mobile app supports volunteer hour logging, timesheets, and event signups. Administrators can add volunteers and review hours; the app supports approving or declining submissions, but hour approval is a Premium feature. That distinction matters: Basic includes time tracking and events, but programs requiring staff sign-off need to move up a tier.

School integrations and data handling

School integrations cover most student-information, learning-management, and identity-management systems, with named options including Blackbaud, FACTS SIS, PowerSchool, Canvas, Google Classroom, Clever, and ClassLink. They are intended for student service-hour programs, and organizations interested in them must contact the provider.

The provider says its US data centers are SOC 2 and GDPR compliant, data in transit uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher, and the site is backed up daily. It also says it does not use, share, or sell customer data collected through the product. Support is primarily by email, with meetings when needed; onboarding and training for larger organizations cost extra.

Pricing

Track It Forward is freemium, with a free plan and a 30-day trial. The trial requires no credit card or payment method; accounts that do not upgrade afterward move to the free plan. Only active volunteers count toward subscription pricing, so archiving inactive volunteers excludes them from the count.

Free — free. For grassroots organizations with less than 25 volunteers, this offers basic tracking. It is a practical starting point for a small program, but not a fit once the organization exceeds that limit or needs the paid tiers' broader toolsets.
Basic — 13.25 USD per month. The shown price is for 100 users and is billed monthly; annual billing saves 20%. It includes time tracking, an event calendar, reports, the mobile app, milestones, and email messages. This is the entry paid tier for organizations that need those core workflows, but it does not include hour approval.
Premium — 25.00 USD per month. The shown price is for 100 users and is billed monthly; annual billing saves 20%. It adds hour approval, multiple administrators, conditional milestones, custom profile fields, and a digital event sign-in sheet to Basic. Choose it when staff review or more structured administration is essential.
Advanced — 37.00 USD per month. The shown price is for 100 users and is billed monthly; annual billing saves 20%. It includes Premium features plus text messages, advanced verifications, file upload fields, conditional hour-log fields, a check-in kiosk, and offline mode. Those additions suit programs with more demanding verification or onsite workflows; smaller programs may not need them.

The 100-user basis is important when comparing the paid prices with a program's actual active-volunteer count. The free plan's under-25 cap and the paid tiers' different approval and verification tools are the main decision points.

Platforms

Track It Forward runs on the web, Android, and iOS. The mobile app covers volunteer logging and event signups as well as administrator tasks, making it useful for programs whose participants and coordinators work away from a desktop.

Who it's for

Schools and community organizations running service-hour programs are the clearest fit, especially when they need event signups, verified hours, and progress tracking in one service. A small grassroots organization with fewer than 25 volunteers can start with basic tracking at no charge. Programs that need approval should budget for Premium, while organizations seeking school-system connections should confirm eligibility for the student service-hour integration program.

Pros and cons

Pro: Volunteers have three ways to log hours—online, in the app, or onsite—so programs can accommodate different participation settings.
Pro: Reports can be grouped, filtered, and exported to Excel, giving coordinators ways to summarize records beyond a fixed report view.
Pro: Pricing counts active volunteers rather than archived inactive ones, which avoids charging for volunteers no longer participating.
Con: Hour approval is absent from Basic, so programs that require staff sign-off must pay for Premium or Advanced.
Con: The free plan is limited to grassroots organizations with less than 25 volunteers, restricting its use as a larger program grows.
Con: Support is primarily by email, and larger-organization onboarding and training carry an additional fee.

Alternatives

Among nonprofit volunteer management software, these options offer different trade-offs:

POINT is another freemium option with a free plan, and is worth considering if its free offering's unlimited volunteers and administrators, signups and scheduling, messaging, and time tracking suit your needs.
VolunteerMark has a free forever plan for up to 50 volunteers and one administrator, with unlimited event creation; choose it if those limits fit better than Track It Forward's grassroots-only free plan.
Vome offers a free Recruit plan with unlimited volunteers and admin seats, alongside one application form and one onboarding sequence; it may suit a program prioritizing those recruitment tools.
Volunteer Scheduler Pro is a paid option with a free trial and scheduling tools across mobile and web; consider it when scheduling is the priority and a free plan is not required.
GivePulse has a free Basic Free plan with one admin, no subgroups, and five custom fields; it is an option if that smaller free setup meets your needs.
vHours is a paid option with a Starter plan for up to 250 active volunteers and unlimited administrators; consider it if that stated capacity fits your program.
CERVIS is paid and its Basic plan covers unlimited volunteers, communication, and reporting but no hour tracking; it is a possible alternative for programs that do not need hours tracking.
Mobilize offers a free limited starter account for five team members and the next five events or online actions; it may fit a small team with modest initial activity.

Verdict

Choose Track It Forward if your school or community program needs volunteers to log hours across online, mobile, and onsite settings, with events, reporting, and goals alongside the records. Its main advantage is bringing those workflows together; its main reason to look elsewhere is the step up to Premium when hour approval is a requirement.
