Overview

VolunteerMark brings volunteer scheduling, communications, records, and event check-in into one system. It suits nonprofits and larger programs coordinating volunteers across recurring shifts or multiple locations. Its free plan gives small teams room to create events, but the 50-volunteer cap and paid plans’ SMS allowances shape the upgrade decision.

Key features

Scheduling and communications

Organizations can schedule one-time, flexible, and fixed positions, using automatic scheduling tools and reminders to keep shifts organized. Coordinators can reach volunteers by email, SMS, in-app notifications, direct message, chat, announcements, and automated shift reminders. That range is useful when a program needs more than a signup list, though text-message quotas may constrain teams that rely on SMS for frequent updates.

Volunteer records and check-in

Volunteers can log service hours, seek organization approval, and print certificates. The volunteer app adds opportunity search and signup, position management, hour tracking, and notifications; the kiosk app supports self- or coordinator-led check-in and check-out, PIN-based event access, and served-hour tracking. These options make the product a practical fit for programs that need to track both participation and attendance at events.

Integration, branding, and safeguards

The Salesforce integration syncs volunteer profiles, hours, and activities and automates data updates, a useful fit for organizations already managing those records in Salesforce. Whitelabel branding adds an organization’s logo, colors, themes, and custom subdomain. VolunteerMark describes SSL encryption, encrypted inter-server communication and database data, firewalled servers, controlled access, and automatic copies of user data across multiple RackSpace data-center locations.

Pricing

VolunteerMark uses a freemium model. The free plan is free, forever, and supports up to 50 volunteers, one administrator, and unlimited event creation. It is a sensible starting point for a small program, but the volunteer cap and single-admin limit leave little room for a growing team.

Essential costs 89.00 USD per month, billed month-to-month, and includes unlimited volunteers and administrators plus 100 text messages per month. It removes the free tier’s roster and admin ceilings, but organizations should compare the SMS allowance with their communication needs.

Royale costs 149.00 USD per month, billed month-to-month. It keeps unlimited volunteers and administrators, raises the monthly text allowance to 250, and adds multiple locations, external services, and data migration. This is the stronger fit for multi-location programs or organizations moving data, though the SMS cap still matters for heavy texting.

The pricing summary also gives a starting price of $34/mo (annual), which differs from the month-to-month prices and plan terms above. The trial terms differ as well: the pricing FAQ refers to a 14-day trial, while signup advertises a 30-day unlimited trial. Confirm which terms apply before committing. Volunteer accounts and the volunteer app are free, with opportunity search, service-hour tracking, certificates, and social sharing.

Platforms

VolunteerMark supports Android, iOS, and web. Its separate volunteer and kiosk apps extend access to mobile signup, hour tracking, notifications, and event check-in.

Who it's for

VolunteerMark is best suited to nonprofits, universities, and other programs that need to coordinate volunteers at meaningful scale, especially when scheduling, hours approval, mobile check-in, Salesforce syncing, or multiple locations are priorities. Its stated range extends from a local one-time event to a university or national nonprofit program. A small organization can start free, but teams with more than 50 volunteers or multiple administrators will need a paid plan. Organizations whose operations depend on extensive SMS should assess the monthly allowances carefully.

Pros and cons

Broad coordination toolkit: Scheduling, multiple communication channels, hour records, certificates, and check-in tools support both ongoing programs and events.
Useful mobile options: Free volunteer access and a separate kiosk app support signup, recordkeeping, and attendance workflows without limiting use to a desktop.
Free plan has firm team limits: The 50-volunteer ceiling and single administrator make it better for a small program than a growing one.
Paid SMS is capped: Essential includes 100 messages per month and Royale 250, which may be restrictive for programs that communicate often by text.
Trial terms are inconsistent: The 14-day and 30-day descriptions make it worth confirming the applicable trial length before signup.

Alternatives

POINT is a freemium alternative with a free plan and trial across Android, iOS, and web; its free plan includes unlimited volunteers and admins, signups and scheduling, event, contact and group management, messaging and reminders, and time tracking. Consider it when unlimited free seats are more important than VolunteerMark’s stated check-in and Salesforce capabilities.

Vome offers a free Recruit plan with unlimited volunteers and admin seats, one application form, one onboarding sequence, and 35 default database fields. It is worth considering when recruitment and onboarding limits suit the program better than VolunteerMark’s event-focused free tier.

SignUp.com has a free Basic plan with one primary organizer, one custom participant question, one group page, and email support, plus a paid Plus option. Choose it when those organizer and group-page limits fit the need for a simpler signup workflow.

Volunteer Scheduler Pro is a paid option with a free trial and apps for Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows; its Lite edition offers flexible scheduling and mobile and web access, with pricing depending on edition and volunteer count. Consider it when broader desktop-platform coverage and scheduling are the priority.

Church Volunteering has a free plan for one team and up to 10 volunteers, with manual reminders and a basic roster builder, as well as a Standard plan at 12.00 USD per month. It is a lower-cost alternative for a small church team that can work within those limits.

Volgistics is a paid alternative with a free trial; its base service for 50 volunteer records costs 9.00 USD per month, with optional modules and additional records or operators changing the total. Consider it when a smaller record allowance and modular pricing suit the organization.

VolunteerLocal has no free plan and offers a $200/event Discover Plan for single events, with two admin seats, 10,000 SMS per year in the US and Canada, and unlimited volunteer records, applications, and events. It may suit organizations focused on single-event operations and a larger stated SMS allowance.

Charity Republic is another alternative to compare for volunteer management.

Verdict

VolunteerMark is a strong choice for nonprofits and larger volunteer programs that want scheduling, communications, hour records, and mobile event check-in together, with Salesforce syncing and branding available for organizations that need them. Its free plan is useful for a small roster, but growing teams must budget for paid access, and SMS-dependent programs should weigh the monthly caps before choosing a tier. Look elsewhere if a 50-volunteer free limit or the paid text allowances do not fit the program.
