Overview

The software targets both clutter and traces left by online and offline activity. It covers browser history and cookies, download and document lists, caches, temporary files, and traces from many third-party applications. Custom cleaning lists extend that coverage to unsupported applications, giving users a way to target software beyond its built-in support.

Windows is the more capable edition: it adds file and free-space erasure, SSD-aware handling, File Explorer access, and privacy controls. The Mac edition focuses on trace cleaning, with coverage for more than 100 native and third-party applications and item details users can inspect before erasing. Choose it for recurring cleanup and targeted file erasure, not for whole-drive wiping; drive wiping is not supported.

Key features

Cleaning and automation

Cleaning and wiping jobs can be combined into tasks, run immediately, or scheduled for logon, logoff, startup, and shutdown. That makes the software a stronger fit for people who want maintenance to happen routinely rather than remember to launch each cleanup. Tasks can also start from a command line, while most Windows operations are available directly in Windows, including through File Explorer.

Erasure and privacy controls

Windows offers fast and strong algorithms, including DoD-approved methods, for files and free disk space. It recognizes SSDs and defaults to wiping only necessary data to reduce additional wear, a practical distinction for users concerned about repeated writes. Password protection, stealth mode, and a Boss Key that closes a web browser in an emergency add privacy controls, though these are Windows features rather than shared capabilities across both editions.

Pricing

The Windows and Mac editions have fully functional 30-day trials with no device-count limit during the trial. Afterward, Windows converts to R-Wipe & Clean Lite, which continues cleaning essential traces but removes scheduled tasks, does not clean any detectable traces, and has no Windows Server support. Lite is free; it is a limited ongoing option, not a substitute for the full scheduled-cleaning feature set.

R-Wipe & Clean Standalone: 28.99 USD per once for a lifetime license covering one personal computer or workstation, not servers. The license transfers when that machine is replaced or decommissioned, making it the least expensive paid fit for an individual computer.
R-Wipe & Clean Corporate: 88.99 USD per once for one workstation or server, with transfer when the machine is replaced or decommissioned. It fits a single server or workstation where the personal-use Standalone license does not.
R-Wipe & Clean Technician: 168.00 USD per once for serving multiple computers, subject to a cap on simultaneous installations or runs equal to the licenses purchased. It suits technicians who need multi-computer coverage within that concurrency limit.
R-Wipe & Clean Commercial: 298.00 USD per once for serving storage devices and systems for commercial gain, with one copy usable at a time. This is the relevant tier for paid service work, but it does not authorize concurrent use of multiple copies.

Platforms

R-Wipe & Clean supports Windows and macOS, but the stated system requirements are dated ranges: Windows 7 through 11 and specified Windows Server versions, and macOS 10.7 through 10.12. Check those requirements against the computers in scope before buying. The Windows-specific wiping, SSD handling, integration, and privacy controls should not be assumed to apply to Mac.

Who it's for

It is a good fit for Windows users who want to combine recurring trace cleanup with file and free-space erasure, or for technicians and commercial operators who need license options beyond one personal machine. Mac users may value its broad application-trace coverage and item inspection, but should choose it for cleanup rather than Windows-style erasure controls. It is not the right choice for anyone whose requirement is wiping an entire drive.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad trace coverage plus custom lists can address both common cleanup targets and unsupported applications.
Pro: Scheduled tasks, event triggers, and command-line launching support routine or operator-driven cleanup.
Pro: Windows combines file and free-space erasure with SSD-aware defaults and direct Windows access.
Con: There is no drive-wiping capability, so it cannot replace software chosen specifically for whole-drive erasure.
Con: Lite omits scheduled tasks and detectable-trace cleaning, sharply limiting it for users who want ongoing automation after the trial.
Con: Mac requirements stop at macOS 10.12, while the advanced erasure and privacy features described are Windows-only.

Alternatives

For broader file-shredder comparisons, see File Shredder Software. Consider Active@ KillDisk if Linux support matters; it has a free plan and personal licenses at 64.95 USD per once and 79.95 USD per once. HDShredder is another Linux-and-Windows option, with a free private-use edition capped at 4 TB and one security level, or a 19.90 EUR per once Basic Edition for private use with three security levels and selectable partitions.

BleachBit is worth considering for a free, open-source option that runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows. BCWipe Total WipeOut is a paid alternative with a free trial. Macrorit Data Wiper is a Windows-only alternative with a free home edition, though its recycle-bin wipe is limited to files under 100 MB and fewer than five files, and it wipes non-system disks. Blancco Drive Eraser is a paid alternative with a free trial for Linux and Windows. Crypto Shredder is a free Windows option. D-Secure File Eraser may suit readers seeking an annual file-and-folder erasure license across Windows, Mac, and Linux; its price starts at 40.00 USD per year.

Verdict

Choose R-Wipe & Clean if you want Windows cleanup and privacy-trace removal tied to scheduled tasks, with file and free-space erasure and a one-time license that fits your use. Its strongest case is the combination of automation and SSD-aware Windows erasure. Look elsewhere if whole-drive wiping is essential, or if the older stated Mac requirements and lack of Windows-only controls do not fit your platform needs.
