| Spec score · LLM Security Tools | 8.3 (#6) | 8.9 (#2) |
| Data retention | Basic retention is three months, while Enterprise retention can be customized. | Zero-retention mode avoids writing prompt and response bodies; metadata-only logs retain decisions, reasons and timestamps. |
| Integrations | Openlayer advertises SDKs, a network gateway, CLI, REST API, Git, OpenTelemetry and Snowflake connectivity. | The site lists integrations/providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure, Bedrock, Mistral, Cohere, DeepSeek, Groq, HuggingFace, Ollama, and vLLM. |
| Notable limits | The Basic plan is limited to one member, five projects, one inference pipeline per project, 20,000 inference logs per month, and one workspace. | The product says five OWASP LLM Top 10 risks are covered in full and five are partial, with stated gaps including provenance verification and vector-store isolation. |
| Security certifications | Openlayer states that it maintains SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA-oriented compliance controls. | PromptGuard states that it is not SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 or FedRAMP certified and does not sign BAAs for hosted HIPAA use. |
| Support | Basic includes community support through Discord; Enterprise includes white-glove onboarding and direct Slack access to Openlayer's team. | Pricing lists community support for Free, email support with a 48-hour response time for Pro, priority support with 24 hours for Scale, and dedicated support with four hours for Enterprise. |
| What it does | Openlayer Guardrails inspect live AI traffic and can block prompt injection, jailbreaks, sensitive-data exposure and harmful content before it reaches users. | PromptGuard places a security gateway before an LLM provider to block prompt injection, jailbreaks, data exfiltration and PII leaks before model processing. |

In their own words
Openlayer Guardrails
Openlayer Guardrails inspects live AI inputs and outputs and can block, redact, escalate, or route policy violations for review. It targets prompt injection, jailbreak attempts, exposure of personal or health information, and harmful or toxic content. Openlayer says it detects and blocks more than 50 PII and PHI entity types inline. Teams can configure sensitive-data categories to block and topics an assistant should avoid. Guardrails are commonly enforced through the Gateway or applied directly through the SDK; connections are also available through framework integrations, a CLI, and REST API. Each decision can be recorded with its timestamp, system version, owner, supporting trace, and reason for blocking. Openlayer says guardrail activity contributes to compliance evidence and names the EU AI Act, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF, and OSFI E-23. Deployment options include customer VPC and air-gapped environments; on-premise deployment is available on Enterprise. Basic is free, with one member, five projects, one inference pipeline per project, 20,000 monthly logs, 20 tests per project, one workspace, three months of retention, and Discord support. Enterprise pricing is custom.
PromptGuard
PromptGuard is a security layer between an application and its LLM provider, inspecting requests before they reach the model. It describes 15 detectors across six layers for risks such as prompt injection, jailbreaks, PII, data exfiltration, toxicity, fraud, secrets, malware and tool injection. The product says it detects and redacts 43 PII types using reversible tokenization. Its SDK can automatically instrument supported LLM calls with one initialization call while leaving existing provider code unchanged. Listed providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure, Bedrock, Mistral, Cohere, DeepSeek, Groq, HuggingFace, Ollama and vLLM. Deployment options include managed cloud, hybrid self-hosting and air-gapped installations. In zero-retention mode, prompt and response content is not stored; default security events include a shortened preview and content hash. PromptGuard says customer prompts, completions and documents are not used to train, fine-tune or evaluate models. The Free tier is permanent and includes 20,000 scans a month, one API key, one project and 24-hour log retention. Paid plans include a 14-day money-back guarantee, not a trial.
