In their own words

openLRS

openLRS is a free, open-source Learning Record Store for storing and retrieving learning records generated by learning activities. It supports the Experience API, also called xAPI or Tin Can API. The project includes an Express backend that stores and retrieves records and a React frontend that displays them. Learning platforms create entries by sending xAPI data and session metadata to the /lrs endpoint with a POST request. Requests require an X-Signature header calculated from a shared secret, plus a custom consumer and context ID. openLRS was built for openHPI and the KI Campus H5P Tool and can be adapted for other platforms. Its Moodle plugin captures xAPI events from H5P content and sends them to an external openLRS for analysis. Self-hosting requires MongoDB, Node modules, database configuration, and a server running the Express backend. The repository is available under the MIT License, but GitHub lists it as archived and read-only from February 20, 2026.

Veracity Learning

Veracity Learning is a learning and performance data platform built around the Experience API (xAPI) standard. Its Learning Record Store stores and retrieves xAPI statements, including signatures, binary attachments, and document stores. Analytics include default and custom dashboards, a chart builder, graph query tools, and support for common xAPI profiles. Data can be imported or exported as CSV, JSON, or URL-based data dumps, and statements can be forwarded between LRSs. The product provides an advanced search API, Veracity Query Language, and an LRS API for managing learners, lessons, and other data objects or launching content. Separate LRS instances do not share keys, analytics, or databases. Customers can use cloud-hosted SaaS in a browser or install the product on their own network; the SaaS option uses AWS by default. Veracity Lite is a free download with fewer features. Starter is listed at $100 a month, with 5 LRSs, 1GB storage, 100K–1M xAPI statements, and 25K daily API calls. The Learner Portal is a content player, not an LMS.
