In their own words
OpenSign
OpenSign is an open-source PDF e-signature solution for signing, storing, and securing documents. Users can create reusable templates with pre-placed widgets and send them through the API to one or many signers. API workflows include self-signing, drafts, signer roles, public template links, and real-time webhook notifications. Templates can be embedded in React, Next.js, HTML, JavaScript, and Angular projects. The documentation lists TLS-encrypted transport, audit trails, IP logging, and tamper-evident signed PDFs; account protection includes two-factor authentication and passkey sign-in. The free plan costs nothing and lists unlimited digital signatures and templates, completion certificates, sequential signing, OpenSign Drive, and email notifications. Its free-plan guide limits invitation emails to 15 per month; bulk sending and public links require a paid plan. Live API tokens require Professional or Teams, though sandbox tokens are available on all plans. OpenSign provides Docker self-hosting instructions for Linux, macOS, and Windows. Some SMTP features are limited to paid plans.
PearSign
PearSign is a platform for drafting, sending, signing, and managing contracts electronically. Users can upload PDF or Word documents, add signature and other fields, send them to signers, monitor status, and receive a sealed PDF. For a new agreement, users can describe terms in plain language to generate an editable draft with clauses to review and change; PearSign says the feature is not legal advice. Guided mobile-first forms accept validated answers and file uploads, and signers can complete them through a link without an account. Completed documents receive an AATL-backed PKCS#7 seal via Sectigo and a certificate of completion. The audit record includes timestamps, signer details, IP address, device and authentication information, and a document SHA-256 hash. PearSign lists integrations including Google Drive, Dropbox, Salesforce, Twilio, and Postmark, plus a REST API and webhooks. Its documentation says test keys are disabled while an isolated sandbox is being built. Free includes 3 envelopes per month; paid plans start at $15 a month. After the monthly allowance is exhausted, new envelopes wait until reset or upgrade.
