In their own words
Orca-Flashforge
Flash Studio Desktop, formerly Orca-Flashforge, is Flashforge’s desktop slicer for preparing 3D prints. Based on Orca Slicer, it offers basic and advanced modes with controls for layer height, print speed, and infill density. It is optimized for supported Flashforge printers, including the Adventurer 5M, Adventurer 5M Pro, AD5X, and Guider 3 Ultra, and supports multi-material printing. Users can send jobs wirelessly, monitor printers remotely, and start, stop, and track jobs. WAN Mode transfers files through a cloud server; LAN Only Mode sends them over the local network, requiring the printer and computer to share a network and connect using the printer ID. The software can control extruder and bed temperatures; on the Adventurer 5M Pro, it can also control the chamber light and air filtration fan. Live video requires a camera-equipped printer. Flash Studio Mobile adds printer monitoring, multi-printer and location-based group control, and remote one-click reprinting. Desktop packages are available for Windows, macOS, and Ubuntu. The software is free and built on an open-source foundation under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3.
UltiMaker Cura
UltiMaker Cura prepares 3D models for printing with an open-source slicing engine. The free software is available for Linux, macOS, Windows, and the web. Users can start with recommended settings and choose speed and quality options, or move to Custom mode for more than 400 print-preparation settings. Intent profiles target particular applications, and UltiMaker says recommended profiles have been tested for thousands of hours. Cura includes auto supports, printer control, print monitoring, multi-material tools, and multi-material printing; cloud slicing is not included. It integrates with UltiMaker products and supports STEP and IGES files. The UltiMaker Marketplace offers material profiles from leading brands and community-rated plugins. Cura Enterprise supports cross-platform deployment, configuration, and management; it receives two updates per year, with each update supported for 12 months, including security patches and bug fixes. UltiMaker says Cura automatically collects anonymous machine types, material use, slice counts, and print settings, without personal information. The company provides support articles and ticket submission for technical assistance.
