Overview

ReferDesk connects attorneys across practice areas and jurisdictions through a network its homepage says includes more than 7,000 attorneys. Users can connect with lawyers, join groups, and find co-counsel as well as route cases through the referral dashboard. That mix is more useful than a static directory for firms that need to follow referrals after making an introduction, though the network is only valuable when it fits a firm's practice and jurisdictions.

The dashboard covers cases referred both in and out, with stages including Attorney Invited, Under Review, Under Contract, and Case Settled. There is no stated limit on the number of referrals, which suits ongoing use without a volume ceiling. Users can also withdraw an unaccepted referral and pass the case to the next attorney in its sequence, a practical fallback when an invitation stalls.

Key features

Referral management

Users can send, accept, and monitor referrals from one dashboard. The status stages make it easier to see whether a case is awaiting an attorney, under review, contracted, or settled. Excel exports for referred-in and referred-out cases give firms a way to take those records out of the dashboard, though the stated export option is limited to those case lists.

Case-system connections and workroom access

ReferDesk integrates with Filevine, Clio, Rocket Matter, and other case management systems. It can pull case information from a connected system to create referrals, reducing duplicate entry for firms already working in a supported system. Receiving attorneys can see the information and documents shared in the case workroom, so firms should consider what they share and with whom before routing a matter.

Support and privacy

Users can contact support by email or through the Get in Touch form on the login page. ReferDesk says it collects personal information to provide and improve the service, and that this data may be used to contact or identify users. Firms handling sensitive client matters should account for that data collection alongside the workroom's shared documents.

Pricing

The Free platform is free. It allows users to create a profile and explore the social network and referral dashboard, with no limit on referrals stated. That makes it a sensible fit for attorneys who want to try network-based referrals or manage ongoing cases without a platform charge. The free access is described as a way to explore the platform; no paid tier or additional plan terms are given.

Platforms

ReferDesk is a cloud application accessible from internet-connected devices, with Windows and macOS compatibility. The platform list includes web, Windows, and macOS, making it a fit for firms working across those environments without requiring a specific desktop operating system.

Who it's for

ReferDesk is aimed at lawyers and law firms that send or receive referrals and want visibility into each case's progress. It is particularly relevant to firms using Filevine, Clio, or Rocket Matter, since case information can be imported to reduce re-entry. Firms seeking only a lawyer directory, or those unwilling to share case-workroom materials with receiving attorneys, may prefer a different approach.

Pros and cons

Pros: No referral cap is stated, so recurring use is not constrained by a published quota.
Pros: Case-system integrations and information import can reduce duplicate referral entry for firms using connected systems.
Pros: Referral stages, withdrawal, and sequence handoff help firms monitor and redirect cases when an invitation is not accepted.
Cons: Receiving attorneys can view shared workroom information and documents, making careful control of shared case materials important.
Cons: The value of a network of 7,000+ attorneys depends on whether its members match a firm's practice areas and jurisdictions.

Alternatives

For a different lawyer-referral workflow, Attorney Share charges no monthly fee and instead takes a one-time match fee of $49-$299 when a client is successfully signed; it may suit firms that prefer a success-based fee to ReferDesk's free platform. For broader law-firm marketing rather than referral routing, Law Firm Central offers a free hosted firm page and lead form, with a Starter plan at 497.00 USD per month. Legal Marketing Software is a category list for readers comparing marketing tools rather than referral-management platforms.

Verdict

ReferDesk is a strong fit for law firms that want to manage incoming and outgoing referrals, especially those able to use its case-system connections and attorney network. Its free access and lack of a stated referral ceiling make it easy to consider for ongoing workflows. Look elsewhere if shared workroom materials are a poor fit for your firm's case-handling practices or if the network does not cover the attorneys you need.
