Overview

Trinka combines grammar checks, style suggestions, tone detection, and consistency checks with paraphrasing, AI-assisted writing, citation and plagiarism tools, and a journal finder. That breadth can support several stages of formal writing, rather than just catching spelling mistakes, but it is tailored to academic and technical work.

Trinka Cloud checks English and Spanish with automatic language detection. For document proofreading, users upload an MS Word file and download the edited version. The browser extension supports writing in Google Docs, Authorea, Evernote, and Medium. Trinka is powered by Enago and is part of Crimson Interactive Group, whose About page says it was founded in 2005.

Key features

Writing checks and assistance

Grammar, style, tone, and consistency checks address correctness and uniformity; paraphrasing and AI writing requests extend the tool into revision and drafting. English and Spanish coverage serves writers working in those languages, but the two-language scope is a constraint for multilingual teams.

Document and research workflow

MS Word upload-and-download proofreading is useful when a writer needs to revise a full document rather than work only in a browser text field. Citation and plagiarism checks and a journal finder add research-oriented tasks to the same service. The extension supports four named writing destinations, while institution plans include LMS and SSO integrations for Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, and D2L.

Security and privacy

Trinka says it encrypts user data in transit and at rest and does not sell, monetize, or share it with third parties. Its Trust Center says Confidential Data content is deleted immediately after processing and paid-plan data is not used to train AI models. It also states SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 certification, and compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and GDPR. Those assurances make the paid Confidential Data plan relevant for teams handling sensitive or regulated material.

Pricing

Trinka is freemium, with paid plans from 20.00 USD per month. There is no free trial. The Basic plan does not expire, but usage limits reset monthly, measured from registration.

Plan	Price	Included usage
Basic	Free	5,000 words, 5 AI writing requests, 4 credits, and 1 free plagiarism score
Premium	20.00 USD per month, billed monthly	Up to 120 proofread files per year, 25 AI writing requests per month, 10 credits per month, and 2 free plagiarism scores per month
Premium Plus	Custom pricing	Up to 240 proofread files per year, 1,000 AI writing requests per month, 20 credits per month, and 240 pages per year
Confidential Data	300.00 USD per year, annual billing	Up to 600 proofread files per year, 1,000 pages per year, 3,000 AI writing requests per month, and 600 citations per year

Basic is a practical way to try the workflow, but 5,000 words and five AI writing requests per month limit sustained use. Premium raises the document and request allowances for an individual paying monthly, though 120 files per year and 25 AI requests per month still require attention to volume. Premium Plus substantially raises those quotas, but its custom pricing makes cost comparison difficult. Confidential Data is aimed at teams of five or more handling sensitive, regulated, or proprietary content; its annual price and higher file, page, request, and citation allowances suit organizational use rather than casual writing. Platforms

Trinka is available on the web, Windows, macOS, as a browser extension, through an API, and as a self-hosted option. The desktop and extension options give writers alternatives to the web workflow, while API and self-hosting suit deployments beyond an individual browser session.

Who it's for

Trinka is best suited to researchers, students, and technical writers who need more than grammar correction, especially those proofreading Word documents or combining language checks with citations and plagiarism review. Institutions can make use of LMS and SSO integrations. It is less suitable for writers who need broad language coverage or consistently high-volume use without tracking quotas.

Pros and cons

Pros: A single service covers grammar, style, tone, consistency, paraphrasing, citations, plagiarism checks, and journal discovery, which can consolidate formal writing tasks.
Pros: Word proofreading and integrations with Google Docs, Authorea, Evernote, and Medium fit document and browser-based writing workflows.
Pros: Confidential Data offers immediate post-processing deletion, alongside stated encryption and compliance credentials, for teams with sensitive-content needs.
Cons: Cloud language checking covers only English and Spanish, limiting its usefulness for other-language writing.
Cons: Basic has monthly word and request caps, and Premium also caps files, AI requests, credits, and plagiarism scores; frequent users may need a higher-tier plan.
Cons: Premium Plus uses custom pricing, while Confidential Data costs 300.00 USD per year, making the appropriate higher-volume option dependent on budget and organizational needs.

Alternatives

Choose Paperpal if a research-writing alternative with a free trial is preferable; its Prime plan is 144.00 USD per year, billed annually, and its Pro plan is 348.00 USD per year. Choose QuillBot for broader mobile and desktop platform coverage: it has a free plan across Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, web, and extension, with free paraphrasing capped at 100 words and two modes. Wordtune is another freemium option, with a free tier allowing 10 rewrites and AI suggestions per day, three AI summaries per month, and unlimited spelling and grammar corrections.

For alternatives focused on paraphrasing, compare Rephraser.co, RewriteGuru, Paraphrasing.io, Rephrase AI, and Paraphrase Online; their plan details point to paraphrasing and rewriting rather than Trinka's academic document and research workflow. For broader category browsing, see Grammar checkers, Writing Style Checkers, AI writing assistants, Paraphrasing Tools, AI Content Detection Software, and AI Detection Software.

Verdict

Trinka is a strong fit for academic and technical writers who want language correction joined to Word proofreading and research-writing tools. Its breadth and Confidential Data provisions are the main reasons to choose it; the narrow language range and usage caps are reasons to look elsewhere if your writing is multilingual or consistently high-volume.
