Overview

Paxton10 brings access administration and video monitoring into a single system. Administrators can manage users, permissions and devices, monitor events, create reports and dashboards, and view site plans alongside live or archived footage. The browser interface needs no additional software installation and supports remote access over an internet connection.

One system can support up to 100 sites, 1,000 doors, 1,000 cameras and 50,000 users. That gives a substantial organization room to grow without separate software licence fees, though the system still depends on separately priced hardware.

Key features

Access and video together

Access schedules, audit logs, visitor management, and support for locks and gates cover core entry-management needs. Built-in video management adds live and archived footage, while reports, event monitoring, site plans and device controls help administrators oversee activity. This combined approach suits teams that want access and video administration together; smaller sites that need only one of those functions may find the platform more than they need.

Third-party IP cameras can be added through a video controller or video hub, but their streams also require compatible video recorder hardware. Camera selection therefore needs to account for the supporting equipment, not just the camera itself.

Mobile credentials and integrations

Paxton Connect provides free remote site management on iOS and Android, while Paxton Key offers free smartphone and smartwatch credentials. The system page also identifies fire and intruder alarm integration and compatibility with PaxLock and Entry, giving organizations options to connect related security and entry products.

Security and capacity limits

Paxton says remote access to the Paxton10 server is secured with an SSL/TLS certificate and that the software supports encrypted credentials. Its encrypted cards and keyfobs use AES-128, with a separate encryption key for each system. Paxton also says it makes ongoing security improvements and conducts periodic tests.

The operational ceiling is less generous than the overall site capacity may suggest: no more than 10 system sessions can run at once, and up to 10 clients can view live video simultaneously. Those caps may matter in a busy control room or when many administrators need concurrent access. Paxton recommends the latest Google Chrome for browser access and administration.

Pricing

Paxton10 system

The Paxton10 system has custom pricing and no software licence fees; hardware is priced separately. The Paxton10 Server product page gives an RRP of £1166.00 excluding VAT. It specifies a two-year manufacturer warranty for that server, while Paxton says its products have a five-year guarantee. Buyers should distinguish the server-specific warranty from the broader product guarantee when evaluating hardware costs.

There is a free plan, but no separate plan price or cap is given for it. The central cost consideration is hardware rather than recurring software licences, so this model is a better fit for organizations prepared to budget for dedicated equipment than for buyers seeking a software-only subscription.

Platforms

Paxton10 supports web, Windows, macOS and Linux, as well as iOS and Android. The browser interface avoids additional installation, while the mobile apps support remote management and mobile credentials. Support is available by webchat and phone from 7am–7pm Monday to Friday and 9am–1pm Saturday GMT.

Who it's for

Paxton identifies education, healthcare, retail, leisure, commercial and public-sector organizations among the sectors its products serve. Its capacity makes it a credible option for multi-site estates with substantial door, camera and user counts. The combination of access administration and video oversight is most useful where the same team needs both; the 10-session and 10-live-viewer limits should be checked against expected concurrency before choosing it.

Pros and cons

Pros

No software licence fees: the licence-free model avoids recurring software charges, although hardware remains a separate cost.
Room for large deployments: a system can span up to 100 sites, 1,000 doors, 1,000 cameras and 50,000 users.
Access and video in one interface: administrators can handle entry management, event oversight and live or archived footage together.
Free mobile tools: Paxton Connect supports remote management, and Paxton Key provides smartphone and smartwatch credentials.

Cons

Hardware adds to the cost: the licence-free software does not remove the need to budget separately for equipment; the server RRP is £1166.00 excluding VAT.
Concurrent use is capped: only 10 system sessions and 10 simultaneous live-video viewers are supported.
Third-party camera use has equipment dependencies: added IP cameras need a video controller or hub, and compatible recorder hardware for their streams.

Alternatives

For a narrower free access-control starting point, Raven CloudAccess offers a free plan capped at two doors, five users and seven days of event history, with community support; choose it when those modest limits matter more than Paxton10's larger system capacity and combined video administration. AXIS Camera Station Secure Entry is another paid option with a free trial and Android, iOS, web and Windows platforms; consider it if those platform options and trial access are priorities.

Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator is a paid alternative for buyers comparing building-integration software. Swiftlane is paid, has a free plan and trial, and offers a video-clips plan at 30.00 USD per month per intercom device with up to 300 clips per day, 15 seconds per clip and 30-day cloud retention; consider it when that intercom video-clips arrangement suits the requirement. Verkada Access Control is a paid option with a free trial for buyers comparing access-control systems.

ButterflyMX is a paid option with free-plan availability and video intercom hardware, including an 8″ Video Intercom (surface) at 3995.00 USD per once. Gallagher Command Centre is another paid access-control option. Rhombus Access Control has a free trial and a per-door Access Control Door License at 199.00 USD per year, paid up front for a one-year term and requiring a DC10 or DC20 controller; consider it when a per-door licence structure is preferable. Verdict

Paxton10 is a strong fit for organizations that want to administer access and video across a large, multi-site estate without ongoing software licence fees. Its scale, browser access and free mobile credentials are practical advantages. Choose it when dedicated hardware and the 10-session and 10-viewer caps fit the deployment; look elsewhere if those concurrency limits are too restrictive or the hardware budget is the deciding constraint.
