Phoneme
Phoneme is an interactive International Phonetic Alphabet reference and pronunciation trainer for EFL and ESL teachers. Its General American English reference covers 38 phonemes: 14 vowels, including diphthongs, and 24 consonants. Selecting a sound plays native-speaker audio and displays cues for place, manner, voicing, and lip shape. Users can browse minimal pairs to compare similar sounds. Train mode includes hear-and-choose, symbol-identification, and minimal-pair exercises, while printable IPA handouts are available for classroom use. The reference works in a browser without installation, and its chart and audio remain usable offline. The Reference tab requires no sign-in; an account is only needed to sync Train Unlock across devices. Reference is free, and Train mode is a one-time purchase of 4.99 USD, including drills, printable exports, session progress tracking, and permanent access. Phoneme says it does not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. It lists Android, iOS, macOS, and web platforms.
TriTalk
TriTalk is an English speaking coach for practicing conversations with AI characters on Android and iOS. Learners can choose from 12+ preset real-life scenarios or create custom ones. The service provides instant grammar corrections and suggestions for more natural expressions, plus word-level, phoneme-based pronunciation analysis and pitch visualization for comparison with native speakers. Shadowing practice uses visual pitch comparison, and progress syncs to the cloud across devices. TriTalk says its engine combines large language models, speech-to-text, and real-time pitch contour analysis. A free plan includes three scenarios per day, basic pronunciation feedback, limited AI conversations, and community access. Plus is $9.99 per month and Pro is $24.99 per month; both offer unlimited conversations and grammar analyses, with different daily pronunciation-check and custom-scenario limits. Voice data is encrypted in transit and at rest, temporarily processed, and deletable in account settings. Recordings are retained for 90 days by default unless deleted sooner. The service is designed for people aged 13 and above; its automated feedback may be wrong and is not a substitute for professional instruction or certification.
