In their own words
Pixian.AI
Pixian.AI is a web service and API that removes image backgrounds automatically. Its servers analyze uploaded images with GPUs and multi-core CPUs, then return transparent PNG files or opaque JPEG and PNG files. Inputs can be JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF, or WebP. Batch processing and API access are available, with example clients for cURL, Java,.NET, Node.js, PHP, Python, and Ruby. The site describes support for many image types, including people, objects, artwork, logos, and scans. Free website images are limited to 250,000 pixels; paid images can reach 25 megapixels, with a 30-megabyte file limit. The Free plan costs nothing and is website-only with low-priority processing. A PAYGO 250-credit plan costs $5 a month for website and API use. API testing is free, while production results require credits.
unbagrnd
unbagrnd removes photo backgrounds with on-device AI, and its desktop app processes images locally through ONNX Runtime. The maker says images, filenames, and metadata are not sent anywhere; the app makes a one-time model download and has no analytics, update checks, or telemetry. Users can choose among several models with different speed and accuracy tradeoffs; the default is described as 43 MB. Editing tools include brush erase and restore with undo and redo, edge shift and smoothing, background color and shadow styling, and alpha matte export. It is intended for single photos or folders, including cutout refinement and background styling. A Docker-based REST API can be self-hosted to process images inside the user’s container. Its documented defaults include a 20 MB image limit, dimensions up to 8192 pixels, batches of up to 10, and 60 requests per API key per minute. The API uses plain HTTP, so a reverse proxy is recommended for TLS when exposing it publicly. The software is free and MIT-licensed, with Android, Linux, macOS, Windows, API, and self-hosted platforms listed.
