In their own words
Plone
Plone is a free, open-source content management system for websites, intranets, and custom applications. Plone 6 provides a block-based editing interface for text, images, video, maps, forms, and search; its layouts can create flexible multi-column pages that adapt to different devices. Editors can define content types through the web without code and build forms by drag and drop, with submissions sent by email or stored as CSV. A faceted search block filters results by facets. Plone also supports editorial workflows, custom roles, multilingual content, SEO tools, and a media library. A React-based frontend and REST API are supported, and the ecosystem includes more than 100 add-on products. It can run on UNIX-based systems, Windows, and macOS, on premises or in cloud deployments. The site says users retain control of their data. Each major version receives five years of security support; Plone 6 support is listed through 2027-12-31. Service providers offer development, training, customization, and deployment help.
Prismic
Prismic is a headless content management system with developer tools and a visual page builder for websites built on an existing stack. Its Visual Page Builder supports live editing, drag-and-drop layouts and reusable slices; Slice Machine helps model content and generate TypeScript and component structure. Official integrations and SDKs are listed for Next.js, Nuxt and SvelteKit. Teams can localize content, configure custom roles, preview pages, review revision history and roll back changes. Imgix integration optimizes images, and each page includes schema support. APIs, webhooks and a Migration API support integrations and structured content migrations. Prismic runs as a single product across web and API platforms and connects to Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP-enabled AI tools. The free plan allows one user, two locales and 4 million API calls monthly; it includes 100 GB of monthly CDN bandwidth, and exceeding that allowance locks the project. Paid plans start at $10/mo (annual). Prismic was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Paris, France.
