In their own words
PNGTuber Plus
PNGTuber Plus is a free desktop app for customizing 2D PNG VTuber avatars, with tools aimed at remaining approachable for beginners. Users can add PNG images or sprite sheets for animated sprites. Sprites can move with sine waves, attach to other sprites, trail behind movement, or bounce and jiggle. Individual sprites can appear or disappear when speaking or blinking, and lip sync is supported. Users can change the background color for transparency or green-screen use in OBS, then save and share avatars. Builds are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The developer accepts optional support payments, but the software itself is free. The maker links to a public GitHub repository containing the source code and asks users to report bugs, issues, or suggestions through the itch.io community page. Steam lists Windows 10 minimum requirements of a 64-bit processor and operating system, 4 GB RAM, 2 GB graphics, and 100 MB storage.
XR Animator
XR Animator is a free tool for driving MMD or VRM 3D avatars from pose input. It uses MediaPipe and TensorFlow.js to detect poses from webcam video, and supports face, full-body, and combined face, body, and hand tracking. Full-body tracking can use a webcam or an image or video file. Face tracking supports 52 ARKit-compatible blendshapes. Users can record motion capture, export VMD, BVH, and glTF motion, and load VMD, FBX, and BVH motion files; FBX or BVH motion can also be exported to VMD. The scene can include 2D images or video, 3D panoramas, and .x or .glb objects. The web app works in major desktop and smartphone browsers, while Electron apps are available for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Android Chrome supports augmented reality. VMC protocol support and a frameless transparent background for capture apps are limited to Electron mode. The project notes that smartphones with limited processing power may be better suited to face tracking alone.
