Overview

StudyGlen accepts PDFs, text, images, handwritten notes, YouTube links and Anki decks, then generates study materials from them. Quiz inputs include PDFs up to 20MB, text up to 20,000 characters, images processed with OCR, and YouTube URLs using captions. This breadth is useful when material is scattered across formats; the one-quiz-or-flashcard daily free limit, however, makes the free plan more of a preview than a dependable study allowance.

Quiz generation works in 41 content languages with localized AI explanations, while the interface supports 13 languages. A five-question quiz trial can be started without an account or credit card, so readers can assess the core quiz workflow before paying. StudyGlen is operated by Tuncay Technologies Ltd in the UK and says it is GDPR compliant. Uploaded PDFs, text and images are removed from active systems after processing, though backups may persist for up to 30 days.

Key features

Quizzes, flashcards and Anki

Flashcards support basic and cloze deletion cards, FSRS spaced repetition, and smart, sequential and shuffle study modes. Anki imports accept .apkg, .colpkg, .txt, .csv and .tsv files and preserve SM-2 scheduling. That preservation matters to learners who already rely on Anki's review timing and want to reuse an existing collection; the five-imports-per-day free cap makes a large migration slower.

Comics, competition and exports

The comic generator creates scripts, characters, dialogue and scenes, with cartoon, anime, watercolor, realistic and sketch styles. The lifetime free comic is enough to sample the format, but anyone wanting comics beyond that needs a pack with comic credits. Live quiz competitions are a more generous inclusion: hosting is unlimited and uses no credits, with real-time leaderboards, which suits teachers or groups wanting interactive review without drawing down a study balance.

Quizzes can be exported without charge or export limits to PDF, Word, CSV, Anki (.apkg) and QTI, with direct import into Canvas and Moodle. That makes StudyGlen more useful to learners and instructors who need to move generated material into another study or LMS workflow than a tool that keeps its content locked in-app.

The iOS and Android apps support quizzes and flashcards, offline review, and syncing ratings once connectivity returns. StudyGlen also states that it uses HTTPS, encryption, access controls and secure authentication; payments are processed through Stripe and support major payment methods.

Pricing

Free Forever costs 0.00 USD per free and includes one quiz or flashcard per day, one lifetime comic, and two question regenerations per day, with no credit card required. Free users also get five Anki imports per day. This is a sensible way to try the workflow or use it occasionally, but daily learners may find the creation quota restrictive.

Paid packs are one-time payments, not recurring subscriptions, and credits never expire. One study credit generates one complete quiz or flashcard deck. Mini Pack costs 4.99 USD per once for 10 study credits and five regenerations per day; it is the lowest-cost route for occasional extra study sets, but has no comic credit. Starter Pack costs 9.99 USD per once for 30 study credits, one comic credit and five regenerations per day, a better fit for a modest project that also needs one comic. Plus Pack costs 24.99 USD per once for 100 study credits and three comic credits, while Pro Pack costs 49.99 USD per once for 300 study credits and five comic credits. Both retain the five-regenerations-per-day allowance; they suit heavier use, with Pro providing the largest study balance. Unlike a subscription, these packs do not renew, but their finite credit totals mean sustained creation requires another purchase.

Platforms

StudyGlen runs on the web, iOS and Android. The mobile apps allow offline quiz and flashcard review and sync ratings when the device reconnects, useful for study away from a reliable connection. Web access complements them for creating and exporting material.

Who it's for

Students preparing for exams, including medical and nursing students, and language learners can turn their own materials into several practice formats. Teachers can use the unlimited live hosting and leaderboards for group review, while parents are also among StudyGlen's intended audience. It is a weaker fit for someone who needs a large free daily generation allowance or wants recurring, predictable subscription pricing rather than buying finite packs.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad source support, including handwritten notes, images and YouTube links, lets learners build from material they already have.
Pros: Anki scheduling preservation and exports to Anki and QTI support both existing card collections and LMS handoffs.
Pros: Unlimited live quiz hosting uses no credits, keeping group competitions separate from paid study generation.
Cons: One daily quiz or flashcard and one lifetime comic leave little room for sustained free use.
Cons: Paid study credits are finite, and the five daily regenerations remain a ceiling even on the largest pack.

Alternatives

Choose RemNote instead if annotated PDFs, image occlusion cards and handwritten documents matter more than StudyGlen's comics and live competitions; its free plan also has a monthly AI-credit allowance. Jambo is another freemium option, with a free allowance of 2,000 cards, 15 decks and five AI generations per day. Consider Gizmo if you want to compare another freemium study app with a 365-day yearly plan that auto-renews until canceled.

Brainscape is worth comparing if certified flashcards are a priority: its Pro plan includes unlimited AI flashcard creation. Cogni may suit someone looking for spaced repetition, notes, sync and Anki import in a free plan, with a daily review limit. Knowt is a candidate when unlimited file creation, live collaboration and storage, plus a large browsable resource library, are more relevant.

Mindomax is a macOS-only option with a free plan offering one box and unlimited cards. For a tool that runs across more desktop platforms as well as mobile, Mochi offers a free plan with unlimited cards and decks.

Verdict

StudyGlen is a strong choice for students and educators who want to transform varied source material into cards, quizzes and group competitions, especially if Anki compatibility or LMS exports matter. Its free tier is too constrained for daily high-volume creation, and comic use quickly calls for a paid pack. Choose it for flexible formats and non-expiring, one-time credits; look elsewhere if your priority is a generous free quota or a dedicated flashcard workflow.
