In their own words
PostHog
PostHog is a platform for building products, communicating with customers, and understanding customer data. Its suite includes product and web analytics, funnels, heatmaps, graphs and trends, lifecycle analysis, and user paths. Session Replay records sessions from web, React Native, iOS, Android, Flutter, and other SDKs. Feature Flags can target users, groups, or traffic percentages and support phased rollouts, kill switches, multivariate variants, JSON payloads, and beta opt-ins. An integrated data warehouse can use external sources such as Snowflake or BigQuery. PostHog CDP transforms events in real time and sends them to more than 50 destinations, including webhooks, Slack, Braze, and Customer.io. PostHog Desktop is a coding agent that can use product signals such as errors, support tickets, session replays, GitHub issues, Linear, and Zendesk to investigate causes and create pull requests. The free plan includes one year of event and metadata retention; free recordings are kept for one month. Paid plans guarantee seven years of event and metadata retention. PostHog also describes an open-source product licensed under MIT.
Simple Analytics
Simple Analytics gives website owners and marketing teams pageviews, referrers, campaign data, and events without cookies or personal data. It shows where visitors come from and how they browse, including when they reject consent. Teams can track clicks, form submissions, downloads, custom interactions, goals, and multi-step funnels. Weekly or monthly email reports, embeddable live visitor stats, CSV downloads, and APIs provide ways to share or retrieve results. The service says it stores no IP addresses, uses no persistent identifiers, and does not follow users across sites. Analytics data is hosted in the Netherlands, encrypted in transit and at rest, and not transferred outside the EU. Integrations include WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, Ghost, Cloudflare, Netlify, Google Tag Manager, Looker Studio, and Power BI. The free plan is free and includes one user, five websites, and one month of history; data older than 30 days is deleted. Self-serve costs £20 a month. A 14-day trial requires no credit card; trial users can use advanced features without restrictions.
