Overview

Nutritionists, dietitians, health coaches, functional medicine practitioners, naturopaths, wellness consultants, and other holistic providers can use Practice Better to manage records alongside scheduling, billing, payments, and client communication. Programs, courses, protocols, journaling, group sessions, and reporting extend it beyond appointment administration. That breadth is useful when a practice wants one system for care and operations; a provider seeking only a narrow scheduling tool may not need the full scope.

Practice Better says it serves more than 50,000 practitioners in over 100 countries. It states that it complies with HIPAA, PIPEDA, PHIPA, and GDPR, and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest, including backups and log data. Those safeguards matter for sensitive records, but integrations still need scrutiny: the company warns that connecting Zapier sends client contact information outside Practice Better and is not HIPAA-compliant for protected health information.

Key features

Care and practice workflows

Scheduling, digital intake forms, patient reminders, charting, journaling, and secure messaging cover routine client management. Telehealth and group sessions support remote and shared services, while programs and courses let practitioners deliver structured offerings. Reporting, protocols, and automations address administrative work around that care. The combination suits providers who need more than a calendar and payment processor, though the listed feature range alone does not make it the right fit for every practice.

Payments and connections

Practice Better Payments is powered by Stripe and supports online and in-person payments, billing-information storage, and payment plans. The platform says it connects to more than 26 tools, including Apple Health, Fitbit, Fullscript, Rupa Health, That Clean Life, and Zoom. Zapier can extend connections further, but its stated privacy limitation makes it unsuitable for workflows involving protected health information.

Security and support

Compliance claims and encryption at rest and in transit are relevant strengths for a platform holding health records. Email is the primary support channel; Practice Better says it typically responds within a couple of hours. That stated response time may reassure solo practitioners, though support is not described as live or phone-based.

Pricing

Practice Better has a free plan and paid monthly plans, with a 14-day trial for paid plans other than Team. Team has a 30-day free trial. The broad pricing note says paid plans start at $25/user/mo (annual), while the plan prices below are monthly.

Plan	Price	Limits and inclusions	Best fit
Sprout	Free	Free forever; 3 active clients; 100 MB storage; 1 practitioner license	A solo provider testing the workflow or serving only a very small caseload.
Starter	35.00 USD per month	10 clients; 1 GB storage; 1 practitioner license	A solo practice that has outgrown Sprout but still has a small roster.
Professional	69.00 USD per month	300 clients; 5 GB storage; 1 practitioner license	A solo practitioner needing substantially more client capacity.
Plus	99.00 USD per month	Unlimited clients and storage; 3 admin licenses; 1 practitioner license	A solo practitioner with a large caseload and administrative help.
Team	155.00 USD per month	Unlimited clients and storage; 2 practitioner licenses; unlimited admin licenses	A small team needing two practitioners and flexible administrative access.

Sprout’s client and storage ceilings are strict trade-offs for a no-cost plan. Starter raises the client allowance to 10 but remains a single-practitioner plan; Professional’s 300-client cap is a more substantial solo-practice tier. Plus removes the client and storage limits and adds two admin licenses, but not another practitioner. Team is the only listed option with multiple practitioner licenses, and its 30-day trial is longer than the 14 days for other paid plans. Providers should compare the monthly tiers with the annual-billing starting price before choosing, since those are different terms.

Platforms

Practice Better runs on the web and has mobile apps for iOS and Android. It is also accessible through supported desktop and mobile web browsers, giving practitioners a browser option alongside the dedicated mobile app.

Who it's for

The strongest match is a nutrition, wellness, or holistic-health practice that wants records, client communication, scheduling, payments, and care delivery in one place. Solo practitioners can start on Sprout or move up as their caseload grows; Plus adds administrative access without adding a practitioner seat, while Team is better suited to a practice with two practitioners. A practice that depends on Zapier to move protected health information should look elsewhere for that workflow.

Pros and cons

Broad care-and-business coverage: charting, scheduling, payments, telehealth, messaging, programs, and reporting can serve practices that would otherwise combine several workflows.
Useful solo-to-team tiers: plans range from one practitioner with small client limits to two practitioners with unlimited clients and storage.
Meaningful privacy assurances: the stated compliance coverage and encryption include data at rest, backups, and log data.
Free plan is tightly capped: three active clients and 100 MB storage make Sprout unsuitable for most established caseloads.
Zapier has a material privacy caveat: client contact information leaves the platform, and the connection is not HIPAA-compliant for protected health information.
Plan capacity differs by seat type: Plus adds admin licenses but keeps one practitioner license, so it does not serve a multi-practitioner team.

Alternatives

Carepatron is worth considering for providers who prioritize a larger free allowance: its free plan has unlimited clients, 1GB storage, 1M AI tokens, 1K tasks, and 100 appointments, compared with Sprout’s three active clients and 100 MB. Its listed platforms also include API and macOS alongside Android, iOS, and web.

Zanda is another paid alternative with a free trial and apps for Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows. Its Dedicated SMS number plan costs 4.99 USD per month and includes 35 SMS credits, with additional sent messages at $0.09 each.

Halaxy offers a free core platform with unlimited appointments, practitioners, and locations, making it a candidate for practices whose priority is broad appointment and practitioner capacity at no charge.

Cliniko may suit a practice willing to pay for a paid-only option: its 1 practitioner plan is 45.00 USD per month and includes unlimited admin and reception users, locations, file storage, and patients.

Healthie is a paid alternative with a Core annual-billing plan at 18.00 USD per month for 10 active clients, scheduling, payment processing, charting, telehealth, and a client portal.

HiDoctor is a paid alternative with a HiDoctor Online plan at 98.00 BRL per month.

Tebra is a paid alternative whose Practice Essentials low-volume, non-physician tier starts at 199.00 USD per month per provider for 100 or fewer claims per month.

DaySmart Appointments is a paid alternative with Gold at 99.00 USD per month for up to 10 users and 500 appointments scheduled per month, or Platinum at 149.00 USD per month for up to 15 users and 750 appointments per month.

Verdict

Practice Better is a strong choice for holistic health providers who want clinical records, practice administration, payments, and client-facing services in one system. Its main limitation is the sharp capacity difference between the tightly capped free plan and paid tiers, while Zapier requires particular caution around protected health information. Choose it for an integrated practice workflow; look elsewhere if a genuinely usable free caseload or HIPAA-compliant Zapier workflow is essential.
