Overview

WPS PDF Editor is a cross-platform PDF editor for people who want to handle document changes, page cleanup, and AI-assisted reading in one product. It suits readers moving between PDFs and office files; the strongest case is its breadth, while the free plan’s storage and format caps may constrain regular work.

Key features

Text editing, annotations, conversion, compression, and page tools cover the routine work of revising and assembling PDFs. Users can combine files, reorder pages, split documents, and insert or remove pages. This makes WPS a practical all-rounder for document maintenance, though advanced text recognition and full editing are reserved for Pro+.

WPS AI can summarize a PDF, explain selected content, translate selected text or a whole document, and answer questions about a file. That is useful for navigating long or unfamiliar material; Pro+ includes essential AI tools, but with usage limits, so it is not an unlimited AI-reading plan.

For paperwork, the editor detects fillable fields, supports form completion and creation, and adds electronic signatures. Security controls include encryption, privacy protection, restrictions on copying, printing, and editing, watermarks, and digital signatures. WPS says files are processed locally unless the user chooses cloud upload, a meaningful option for people handling sensitive documents.

Cloud synchronization links Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and web use, with storage varying by plan. The wider WPS suite includes Writer, Spreadsheet, and Presentation, and supports Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint formats such as .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx. Its browser extension can read, edit, fill, convert, and AI-chat with PDFs.

Pricing

WPS Standard has custom pricing and includes 1 GB of cloud storage, 47 file formats, and 46 languages. It is the lower-storage option for users whose needs fit those format and language provisions; the 1 GB allowance is a meaningful ceiling for people syncing many documents.

WPS Pro+ is 5.83 USD per year (billed $69.99/Year). It adds full PDF editing and conversion, unlimited templates, advanced text recognition, full electronic signatures, 20 GB of cloud storage, essential AI tools with usage limits, and no advertising. It is the better fit for an individual who needs the full editing set and more storage; the AI quota remains a constraint.

WPS Pro+ Sharing Plan is 3.00 USD per year (billed $41.99/Year/user Save 40%). It requires at least two users, gives each member Pro+ benefits and 20 GB of private cloud storage, and lets members be added or removed at any time. The per-user figure and member flexibility suit a small shared group, but the two-user minimum makes it unsuitable for a solo buyer.

A free plan and a 3-day trial are available. The free plan has 1 GB of storage and 47 file formats; Pro+ raises storage to 20 GB and adds the specified full editing and conversion features, advanced recognition, full signatures, and limited essential AI. The trial is short, so it offers only a brief window to assess the paid tier.

Platforms

WPS PDF Editor runs on Android, iOS, Linux, MacOS, web, and Windows, with a Chrome extension. The broad reach is useful for people who switch between desktop and mobile, and cloud synchronization connects supported devices.

Who it's for

Choose WPS if you want a single PDF workspace for editing, page organization, forms, signatures, and AI-assisted reading, especially alongside WPS office documents. It is less compelling if you need more than the free plan’s 1 GB or require unrestricted AI use, and the sharing plan does not suit one-person purchasing.

Pros and cons

Pro: Editing, conversion, annotations, page organization, forms, and signatures sit together, reducing the need to switch tools for routine PDF work.
Pro: Local processing by default, according to WPS, gives privacy-conscious users a way to work without choosing cloud upload.
Pro: Windows, Mac, mobile, web, and browser-extension support plus cloud sync serve workflows that move between devices.
Con: Free storage is 1 GB, well below the 20 GB included with Pro+, which may limit a growing synced library.
Con: Pro+ AI use is limited, so frequent question-and-answer work may run into quotas.
Con: The sharing plan requires two users, excluding solo buyers even though its price is stated per user.

Alternatives

Compare PDF editors if WPS’s feature mix or plan structure does not match your needs.

ONLYOFFICE PDF Editor is another freemium choice with a free plan and support for platforms including self-hosted and API options; consider it when those deployment routes matter.

Foxit PDF Editor is a paid alternative without a free plan, with a PDF Editor plan at 129.99 USD per year that includes DMS and 300 AI credits/month. Choose it if that paid-plan structure is a better fit than WPS’s free tier and usage-limited essential AI.

Smallpdf offers a free plan with 30+ tools and 2 Sign.com documents per month, plus a 7-day free trial. It may suit users who want that stated tool set and a longer trial window.

PDF Candy has a free web and desktop plan, with page and hourly restrictions, no batch processing, and limited file size. It is an option for users whose work fits those restrictions.

iLovePDF has a free Basic plan with limited tools and document processing. Consider it if a restricted free workflow is enough.

LightPDF has a free web-only plan capped at 10MB per file and five cloud files for one year, with AI Agent limited to three questions per day. It fits occasional, small-file use better than a broad synced workflow.

PDFgear is free and supports online editing for PDFs up to 100 MB, a useful alternative when that file-size allowance suits the task.

KDAN PDF offers a free plan for viewing and editing PDFs with basic features, including annotation, notes, handwriting, and signatures.

Verdict

WPS PDF Editor is a strong fit for people who want broad PDF tools across devices and a bridge to office documents, with local processing as a useful privacy option. Choose Pro+ if full editing, advanced recognition, and 20 GB storage justify the annual cost; look elsewhere if you need generous unrestricted AI or a sharing plan for just one user.
