Overview

Previs Pro models a scene as a 3D simulation governed by real-world optics, rather than a flat drawing. That makes it useful for exploring camera angles and arranging an editorial timeline in spatial context. It is a focused previsualisation tool, not a substitute for a general-purpose video editor.

Screenplay imports from Final Draft, Fountain, Open Screenplay Format, Fade In and Celtx can provide a starting point for planning. Scene layouts, shot annotations and team collaboration support work beyond a solo storyboard. Exports cover PDF, JPEG, PNG, MP4, 2D, 3D and NLE formats; NLE export produces a Final Cut Pro 7 XML project compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

AI generation uses third-party models, including FLUX.2 Turbo, Seedream 4.5, Veo 3.1 Fast, ElevenLabs and Tripo3D. Previs Pro says prompts, scripts, scenes and images are not used to train its own models. Imported screenplays are kept in the local .previs project file and are not sent to Previs Pro servers through importing. Ghostwheel says it collects minimal personal data, does not sell, trade or rent users’ personal identification information, and makes no copyright or trademark claims to exported images or movies.

Key features

The combination of screenplay import, simulated 3D space and timeline assembly gives filmmakers a route from script to shot planning without treating camera placement as a flat sketch. Export to XML is valuable when the next stage is editing in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, though the handoff should not be mistaken for editing functionality within Previs Pro.

AI generation is an optional capability charged by use on paid plans, not an unlimited allowance. The named models are third-party services; users concerned about where generated content is processed should weigh that alongside the stated screenplay-import privacy and model-training policy.

Pricing

Plan	Price	What it includes
Free	Free	1 animatic per project; watermarked exports
Annual	9.99 USD per year (billed $119.99/year)	Unlimited projects, scenes, shots and animatics; AI generation by use; 2D, 3D, MP4 and NLE exports
Monthly	39.99 USD per month (billed $39.99/month)	Unlimited projects, scenes, shots and animatics; AI generation by use; 2D, 3D, MP4 and NLE exports
Lifetime	359.99 USD per once (billed $359.99 one time)	Unlimited projects, scenes, shots and animatics; AI generation by use; 2D, 3D, MP4 and NLE exports; lifetime access

Free is the sensible way to try a project, but its cap applies per project and exported work is watermarked. Annual is the lower-cost ongoing paid choice for regular use; Monthly keeps the same feature set without an annual billing commitment, at a much higher stated rate. Lifetime suits buyers who prefer a one-time payment and expect to keep using the app. Paid plans include the same core limits and export range, while AI remains charged by use.

A free trial is offered. One purchase works on up to five personal devices using the same Apple ID, which helps an individual moving between Apple devices but is not a team-seat allowance.

Platforms

Previs Pro runs on iOS and macOS. Despite web appearing among the platform labels, the product is Apple-only: there is no Windows or Android version or roadmap. The wiki sets 4 GB RAM as the minimum and recommends 6 GB or more for comfortable use. That excludes productions whose planning team depends on Windows or Android devices.

Who it's for

Choose Previs Pro if you work in Apple's ecosystem and want to translate a screenplay into a 3D shot plan, then carry that plan into an NLE through XML export. It is less suitable for mixed-platform teams or anyone seeking a full editing environment. For purchase or export problems, the maker directs users to email hello@previspro.com with Apple receipt details.

Pros and cons

Pros: Real-world-optics 3D simulation gives camera-angle planning more spatial context than a 2D canvas.
Pros: Imports from five screenplay formats and exports XML compatible with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, supporting a script-to-editing handoff.
Pros: Local screenplay storage and the stated no-training policy address two distinct privacy concerns.
Cons: Free projects are capped at one animatic each and exports carry watermarks, limiting its usefulness for finished sharing.
Cons: Apple-only availability rules out Windows and Android users, with no roadmap for those platforms.
Cons: AI generation is billed by use, so paid-plan access does not mean an included fixed quota.

Alternatives

For a broader range of storyboard choices, browse Storyboard Software.

Mari is worth considering for Linux or Windows users needing a paid tool with a free non-commercial option; that free tier limits exports to 4K and 16-bit per channel and disables Python scripting.
StoryTribe fits readers who need Windows or Android support as well as Apple platforms; its free plan allows unlimited projects but limits each to 10 shots and watermarks exports.
Studiovity is an option for teams that need Windows or Android support alongside pre-production tools.
Krock.io is an alternative for web, Windows or macOS workflows; its free plan is limited to one user, one workspace and two projects.
Boords suits a web-based storyboard workflow; its free solo plan supports unlimited storyboards and scripts but is limited to one user.
Shot Designer is a cross-platform option for scene design; its free tier keeps one current scene but omits file management, export and sync or team sharing.
AIM Previz is a web-based alternative with a free allowance of 50 credits a month and a seven-day Pro trial.
Storyboard That is a web option; its free plan allows two storyboards per week and watermarks downloads.

Verdict

Previs Pro is a strong fit for filmmakers using iOS or macOS who want screenplay-led 3D planning and an XML handoff to an established editor. Its main advantage is that connected planning-to-editing workflow; its main drawback is the Apple-only boundary. Try the free plan for a small project, but choose a paid tier if you need uncapped animatics and clean exports.
