In their own words
QGIS
QGIS is free, open-source software for creating, editing, analyzing, visualizing, and publishing geospatial information. Its layout designer produces print maps, while reporting tools can assemble atlases and reports containing maps and tabular material. It includes hundreds of analysis tools and supports visual workflows that can be reproduced. QGIS works with many data sources and formats and can use or create web services based on industry standards. More than 2,000 community-developed plugins add capabilities. QGIS Server publishes projects and layers through OGC-compatible WMS, WMTS, WFS, and WCS services. The download page offers a Long Term Release for users who prefer stability over the latest features. The project lists third-party mobile field apps, including QField, Mergin Maps, and IntraMaps Roam; these are separate from QGIS mobile apps. QGIS is licensed under GNU GPL version 2 or later and has community support through forums, GIS StackExchange, chat channels, and local user groups. The free plan costs nothing.
StatSilk
StatSilk makes tools for building dashboards with interactive data visualizations and maps for web and desktop use. StatPlanet and StatTrends present data as maps, bar charts, line graphs, scatter plots, and bubble charts. StatPlanet Cloud imports spreadsheet data and supports SDMX connections to online databases, including OECD, UNESCO, and World Bank sources. Its dashboards can use movable, resizable panels, filters, embedded text or web pages, and interactive stories. The StatPlanet Cloud API can set dashboard parameters such as indicators, graph type, time, map areas, region, and data file. Data and maps can be hosted by StatSilk or self-hosted, including on a customer's server. StatSilk says information flows from its cloud or servers to the user's device and is not uploaded or otherwise recorded in the cloud. The service has a free plan; StatPlanet Cloud Non-commercial costs $495 a year and Commercial costs $595 a year, both for unlimited users. The maker is based in Sydney and was founded in 2011.
