In their own words
Quartz Scheduler
Quartz Scheduler is a free, open-source Java library for running application tasks at scheduled times or on recurring plans. Triggers can use times, days, calendar exclusions, repeat counts, end dates or intervals. Quartz says it can handle workloads from tens to tens of thousands of jobs, with JTA transaction and clustering support. It can run inside an application, an application server or servlet container, as a standalone RMI program, or as a cluster of standalone programs. JDBCJobStore persists jobs and triggers in a relational database, while RAMJobStore keeps them in memory and loses them between executions. Data sources can come from JDBC, application-server JNDI or custom ConnectionProvider implementations. Built-in clustering depends on JDBCJobStore persistence. Downloads list version 2.5.1 for Java 11+ with the jakarta namespace and 2.4.1 for Java 8 with javax.*. Quartz describes itself as a scheduler rather than a job queue, although it can serve as one at small scale. It is licensed under Apache License 2.0.
System Scheduler
System Scheduler is a Windows utility for scheduling applications, batch files, and scripts as an alternative to Windows Task Scheduler. Its free version can schedule applications, send keypresses and mouse clicks, display popup reminders, and use Window Watcher. Professional adds triggers for idle and cease-idle states, logon, logoff, shutdown, and wakeup events. It also includes file, process, window, and service watchers, timed event sequences, email notices for task runs or failures, and detection of application exit-code errors. Professional can run as a Windows service, so jobs can run while users are logged off. The free version costs nothing and requires the user to remain logged in. One licence covers one Windows computer or virtual machine at a time. The 30-day Professional evaluation is available, and listed Windows support includes versions 7 through 11 and Windows Server 2008 through 2025.
