| Data handling | The mesh is described as read-only, with data staying at its source and no ingestion required. | Teiid acts as a data gateway and does not store the data it accesses. |
| Security | Query says its product design follows a “secure by design” principle and that it has an active bug bounty policy. | The site describes Teiid as providing secure data access and says Spring Boot projects can select security integration among their dependencies. |
| Support | Standard support is included with subscriptions during weekday business hours, and paid Platinum support is available. | The site directs users to community channels including Stack Overflow, a legacy forum, GitHub, and project issue trackers. |

In their own words
Query
Query is a cloud security data mesh that searches distributed security sources without copying their data into a central store. Federated search queries connected systems in parallel and normalizes results to OCSF, while Federated Search Query Language translates general queries into each source’s native language at query time. Query Workers are AI agents that triage, investigate, hunt, and detect across connected sources; analysts review recommendations or inconclusive findings. Federated Detections run SPL, KQL, or Sigma rules where the data resides. Query says it supports more than 50 sources, including Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, CrowdStrike Falcon, Okta, Snowflake, and Google BigQuery. Static connectors map fixed schemas; dynamic connectors let customers configure custom mappings. Access is read-only, with no ingestion required and data staying at its source. The SaaS product runs on AWS data centers in us-east-1. Single sign-on supports Google, Microsoft, and Okta providers. Query states SOC 2 certification, uses NIST CSF 800-53 as a control baseline, and offers weekday standard support plus paid Platinum support.
Teiid
Teiid is a free, open-source data virtualization project that gives applications a uniform way to query multiple underlying sources. It works as a gateway rather than storing the data, and virtual databases can present separate sources together so applications can join or union their results. Access is available through JDBC, ODBC, OData, and REST. Built-in translators are listed for Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and files; custom translators can also be made. Its optimizer uses source capability information to send query work to underlying systems where possible. Documented runtimes include Spring Boot, WildFly, embedded Java, and OpenShift, with Spring Boot noted as less feature-complete than WildFly. Teiid is aimed especially at Java developers integrating enterprise data sources. Connecting to sources commonly requires third-party drivers that are not included. The FAQ cautions that big-data, LDAP-style, and primarily streaming workloads may not be a good fit. Teiid Designer is deprecated, with no further releases expected.
