Overview

Riipen connects colleges, employers and learners through projects tied to academic programs. It suits institutions that need to organize employer-linked coursework and document learner outcomes; employers can participate without platform or recruitment fees.

Most opportunities are virtual, with learners completing organizational tasks as part of a course. Educators can publish course experiences, match with employers, assign projects and reuse experiences in later terms. Employers can post projects and coordinate communication, deliverables and feedback alongside educators and learners.

Key features

Project coordination

Educators can create experiences, match projects, onboard learners and manage project activity. Milestones, deadlines, team assignment options, agreements, surveys, worklogs and team-status tracking provide structure beyond simply posting an opportunity. That is useful for course-based projects with multiple participants and deliverables, though programs should ensure the workflow fits their placement process.

Outcome tracking

Educators can collect employer feedback, run surveys, award achievements and build reports from outcome data, with raw-data export for further tracking. This makes Riipen a stronger fit for programs that need to assess learning as well as arrange projects. External credentialing platforms can receive achievements; Credly is a native integration.

Institutional connections

Riipen supports LTI connections for single sign-on account provisioning and adding learners to linked experiences, with deeper LMS integrations via API, including roster syncing. SAML 2.0 support allows integration with compatible single sign-on systems. The experience LTI integration currently supports Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas and Moodle; institutions using another LMS should check compatibility with Riipen before committing.

For custom workflows, the platform offers a documented REST API, webhooks, an API usage dashboard and Zapier integration. Riipen says customer data is hosted in AWS facilities in Canada across two availability zones, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access and activity logged and audited.

Pricing

Riipen for students and employers: Free. Students and employers can use the platform at no cost, and employers are not charged recruitment fees for hiring students after a project or course. This is a practical entry point for organizations testing student projects without a platform charge.

Riipen for institutions: custom pricing, shared on request through a demo. Institutions should expect to assess fit and cost directly with Riipen; no institutional price is stated. The free offer is aimed at students and employers, not a substitute for an institutional purchasing decision.

Platforms

Riipen is available on the web and through an API. Its integration options include LTI, SAML 2.0, deeper LMS API connections, credentialing integrations and Zapier workflows. The experience LTI integration supports Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas and Moodle.

Who it's for

Riipen is designed for colleges and universities embedding real organizational work in courses, businesses and nonprofits seeking student talent, and learners completing project work within academic programs. It is most compelling when educators need both project coordination and outcome reporting. Organizations looking only to post jobs, or institutions that require an unsupported LMS connection, should compare other approaches.

Pros and cons

Good structure for course projects: milestones, deadlines, worklogs, agreements and team-status tracking help coordinate work across educators, employers and learners.
Outcome reporting is built into the workflow: surveys, employer feedback, achievements, reports and raw-data export support learning evaluation.
Low barrier for employers: organizations can access student talent and complete projects without a platform charge or recruitment fees for subsequent hiring.
Institutional cost requires a sales conversation: custom pricing means colleges and universities cannot judge cost from a published rate.
LMS coverage has a defined boundary: the experience LTI integration supports four named LMSs, so institutions with another system need to confirm their path before adoption.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, see the Internship Management Software category.

Choose GoSprout if you need an employer apprenticeship platform with a per-enrolled-apprentice monthly price and support across mobile and desktop platforms. Flarebox is a different fit for users seeking AI mock interviews and practice tests on a free plan. ImBlaze may suit institutions interested in a student-centered learning approach described by its maker. InPlace and RB Tech Internship Management System are paid internship-management alternatives. TPO Bridge offers a free plan for job posts and campus drives, while BeChallenge offers a free teacher-focused learning-experience designer. GradLeaders is another paid option with API support.

Verdict

Riipen is a strong choice for colleges and universities that want to coordinate employer-linked course projects and track what learners gain from them. Its combination of project workflows, outcome reporting and free employer participation is the central case for choosing it. Look elsewhere if your institution needs transparent upfront pricing or relies on an LMS outside the supported LTI group without a confirmed integration path.
