Overview

Tuta Calendar is a privacy-focused calendar for appointments, business meetings, and repeating tasks. It is strongest for people who want encrypted scheduling alongside Tuta email and contacts. The trade-off is clear: a one-calendar free tier and one-way sync make it less suitable for people who need flexible calendar management.

Key features

Tuta says calendar events, invitations, sharing, and push reminders are end-to-end encrypted. Shared calendars support read-only, read-and-write, and write-and-manage-sharing permissions, useful when collaborators need different levels of control. Invitations to external users can also be encrypted with a shared password.

Users can import calendars through settings, after which they sync automatically across devices. But sync is one-way, a material constraint for anyone who expects edits to travel in both directions between calendars. Tuta says reminders are hidden from the phone operating system and can arrive offline, which prioritizes keeping event details out of system notifications.

Integration with Tuta email and contacts keeps scheduling and related communication in one service. Tuta supports two-factor authentication, says its clients are open source, and describes the calendar as using zero-knowledge architecture. It says its data is stored on its own servers in ISO 27001-certified data centers in Germany. Tuta also describes its business products as end-to-end encrypted and aligned with GDPR requirements.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and includes 1 GB of storage, 1 calendar, and 3 labels. It is a reasonable starting point for an individual who can work within a single calendar, but the calendar cap is the key limitation.

Revolutionary costs 3.00 EUR per month, billed monthly, and adds 20 GB of storage, unlimited calendars, 15 extra email addresses, and 3 custom domains. It fits users who need multiple calendars or want more room for Tuta email, though its value depends on wanting those broader email features as well as the calendar.

Legend costs 8.00 EUR per month, billed monthly. It raises storage to 500 GB and includes unlimited calendars, 30 extra email addresses, and 10 custom domains. Priority email support has a one-business-day reply target. That makes it the more capable option for users with heavier storage and support needs, but its additional capacity is unnecessary for someone seeking only a basic calendar.

Revolutionary includes email support; Legend upgrades that to priority email support. Both paid plans remove the one-calendar limit. The plans bundle calendar access with storage, email addresses, and custom domains, so readers comparing calendar-only costs should weigh whether those extras matter to them.

Platforms

Tuta Calendar is available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, the web, and Windows. Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android, giving it broad coverage across phone and desktop environments.

Who it's for

Tuta Calendar is a good fit for privacy-conscious individuals, businesses, journalists, activists, and organizations, particularly those already using Tuta email and contacts. Its encrypted invitations and granular sharing suit people who coordinate schedules without wanting ordinary event details exposed. Users who need two-way calendar sync or more than one calendar without paying should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: End-to-end encryption for events, sharing, invitations, and push reminders makes privacy central rather than an add-on.
Pros: Three sharing permission levels allow collaborators to receive only the access they need.
Pros: Offline reminders and integration with Tuta email and contacts support private scheduling within one service.
Cons: Free includes only one calendar, so users organizing separate personal, work, or shared schedules may need a paid plan.
Cons: Calendar sync is one-way, ruling it out for workflows that require bidirectional updates.
Cons: Paid plans bundle calendar access with email storage and domain features, which may be more than calendar-only users want.

Alternatives

Browse Calendar apps for a broader comparison. Choose Lark instead if its free Starter plan’s 20 users, 100 GB storage, 18 months of message history, and 1,000 monthly automations suit a collaborative workspace better. Calendar.com is another freemium option, with a free plan for individuals and a free trial; consider it if those terms fit your needs better.

Microsoft Outlook Calendar may suit someone already considering Microsoft 365, whose Personal, Family, and Premium plans offer a one-month free trial. TimeFinder is a freemium alternative with a free core-features plan and a free trial. CalenGoo is a paid alternative with a free plan and trial, and supports Google Calendar, Exchange, CalDAV, and iCloud synchronization.

Fastmail Calendar is worth considering if you want a paid service without a free plan; it offers a free trial and its Basic plan starts at 4.00 USD per month. Teamup may suit groups that can work within its free plan’s five sub-calendars and five users. Cozi is a family-oriented alternative with a free shared calendar, automatic notifications, shared grocery and to-do lists, and a recipe library.

Verdict

Choose Tuta Calendar if encrypted scheduling, private reminders, and integration with Tuta email and contacts matter more than two-way sync. Its free plan is useful for a single-calendar setup, while paid plans remove that cap and add substantial email and storage capacity. Look elsewhere if you need bidirectional calendar updates or want a free plan with multiple calendars.
